I would say 400 is a big stretch. at 400 YARDS a 135g critical duty 9mm +P will only have around 197 ftlbs of energy and drop around 219" ( over 18 feet)!!! that is a calculated out of my 8" barrel. I limit my 9mm AR's effectiveness for a "soft tissue target" to 200 yards MAX. that makes it around the energy of a 380 auto at the muzzle and drops about 33". 150 is way more comfortable for a MAX though. that is only 13" of drop.

I would never consider ANY pistol caliber for defensive use when I still have access to real rifles.

With that out of the way: I think this little guy has a lot of training value.

    1. I can typically find a lot more 9mm for a lot less then 55gr.

    2. 9mm would allow me to shoot much closer to steel targets than 556, creating new drills and more flexibility.

The cons being I could just spend ~$600 and get 2,000 rounds of 556 which has a ton of training value in its own right.

This is definitely worth a look. Building your own from parts approaches $1K very quickly.

Anyone seen one of these in the wild yet? I'm curious how it performs and stands up to some objective review.

I am apprehensive about spending money on a weapon from a small company that may or may not be in business a few years from now. If the company does go under, where would you be able to obtain parts?

If someone bought one of these carbines, thrashed it like a stolen car and gave a good report I would consider buying one. Until then, I am going to hold onto my money.

400m in a long, long, way away in the vast majority of North America. The average LE engagement distance is not (as many cite) 70 yards, but actually 51. One of the longest shots recorded by SWAT snipers is 400 yards, which is significantly less than 400 meters. One would presume that it was a highly skilled and well-practiced shooter using match grade large-caliber ammunition (308, 300 win mag, 338 lapua) firing form a stabilized position in a scenario where the shooter's personal safety is not in danger.

Now take a typical shooter, who may not shoot the volume of a SWAT sniper, whose life is in danger, shooting a 16" barrel pistol caliber carbine at 437 yards. I don't like those odds.
