    Leupold Tactical Prismatic 1X14

I would like to know if anyone has tested and proven the Leupold Tactical Prismatic 1X14 illuminated circle dot optic. Please state your performance and durability characteristics and whether you would recommend it on a fighting or HD gun.

This was introduced at the 2008 SHOT Show. Thanks.

PM a poster by the name of "Steve", he's the only user I'm aware of that has any trigger time on one of these. There are also several posts on this optic over at TOS, w/pics of the reticule, check those out.

I was contemplating getting one until they changed the reticle and added the plex to the Eotech-like circle/dot. Once they did that, it seemed too busy to my liking, but again, that's just my bias w/o having seen one in the flesh.

My unsolicited opinion, a 1X optic should be simple and uncluttered. I consider them 200 yard and under optics, with the ability to stretch beyond if needed. I don't like busy reticules for these type of optics, and the Eotech circle/dot is about perfect IMHO. The Prismatic prototype versions featured just such a reticule, but the final version adds the plex. I think they screwed up on that.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "TOS"?

IMO, battery life and battery resupply make this optic a no-go, as much as I like Leupy products.

so is the run time arround 15 hours as mentioned in the other thread?

that info seems to be out of date as they claim to have "nine brightness settings for changing light conditions" and not just an on/off.with nine brightness settings i would hope that it would also be daylight visible?

Leupold doesnt seem to list a run time.

interesting optic, but definite info still seems to be in short supply.

the added clarity and light gathering of the prism has me curious...along with the etched ret.

Battery life, on HIGH setting, is 15 hours. Confirmed on TOS. Reticule is daylight visible from other reports I've read.

Clarity, both glass and reticule, is very good from my peek through one at a local gun shop. Physical form factor is small, smaller than a Aimpoint M3. I don't like the reticule though, the plex makes it too busy IMHO. Would have been better to just go with a circle/dot, and maybe add a thick plex around the perimiter, but stop it well short of the dot.

definately need to get my hands on one to take a look.

alot of retailers are still showing it as just having the circle ret(EOTech-like).i guess thats just old info and its not an option?...

Correct. There is no circle/dot option.

They do offer a second reticule in their Hunting line, it's a Duplex model. Check out Leupold's website, just click on the Hunting tab, and then drill down to the Prismatic. That reticule doesn't do anything for me though either.
