If it's aliens, you might as well kit up since they won't be able to tell the difference.

If it's aliens, just study the script to find the right solution, because you're in a Hollywood movie.

The only problem with it being a movie is that I would be the comic relief.

That's OK, we could get shot down together in the big dogfight that only Will Smith survives...

out and about, my first instinct is to not let anyone know what I have. that means low profile, concealed, handgun on person, supply in Dora the Explorer diaper bag.

if I need to patrol and/or presenting a long arm, I might as well go all the way and really project force so no one will be tempted to try their luck.

If I have to have to observe or guard a position, I'll be doing it from a concealed position anyway so...

I think they could surprise many folks on here. Obviously a moving head shot would be more difficult, but probably not impossible. I would say these are the types that would be looking to score gear for themselves or their group.
Facing off with Fudds decked out in realtree 15-20' above ground level is actually pretty scary, ask anyone who has hunted Sam Houston Forest during opening day.

I wish I still hard the article, but it was from the perspective of a guy living in a war zone and trying to get his family from day to day. The main points I took away from the site (it was more of a blog on how to survive in an actual war zone)

    1. Don't travel in groups of 4+. These groups are seen as raider groups, strong enough to overwhelm a fixed point, but small enough to fit in a pair of trucks.

    2. Never travel alone. Pairs are best, but if someone is traveling alone, they disappear.

    3. Don't let women go outside of the house without a male escort. Rape and murder are common when their is no ROL.

    4. Don't play music in a house. I forgot why, but it had something to with OPSEC.

    5. Don't travel during the day, travel at night. If you do travel during the day, keep to alleys, sides of houses, and stay well hidden.

    6. Anyone open carrying a rifle is seen as a combatant. A concealed pistol is good enough for most confrontations (he said the most he ever fired against a trio of guys trying to steal his bag of groceries was 4 rounds and they fled) and the rifles take up too much room and weight to be used for anything except escort and static defense.

    7. Board up any windows on the ground floor. They are access points. Make as few access points as possible. Used screws, not nails. Screws are harder to get off with a crow bar, but nails are pretty easy.

    8. Don't loot. Looters are killed and strung up in the street.

    9. Get together with another family that you know well and trust. More eyes looking outward the better.

    10. Keep as stealthy as possible. Only leave the house for absolute necessities.

I will continue to search for it, but I want to say that the guy lived in a city being invaded by the Russians on the Crimea peninsula but I am not sure.

That is very interesting. Was his area under occupation from a foreign army or did his gov just leave in preparation of being invaded?

I can see how those situations would be completely different situations to a collapse in gov. I would be interested in reading that is you find it.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

To be honest, I was three beers in when I was reading it, but I believe that the gov had already lost the city, but the civilians were putting up a fight and the government was trying to come back in. I am probably wrong about the location, but the site was very good. It had pictures of most of the stuff he was talking about.

The moving around during the day thing was to try and avoid getting shot at by snipers (from both sides) and to try not to attract too much attention by activity within a house. His house had two or three families all living in about 1700 square feet (10 people) and they felt it was safer because of continual survelance of the house, even when groups left to go barter and trade.
