G2G? Specifically wondering how to install the SF mount. Is there a proper shoulder to torque against? Does the SF have a cut out for the detent pin?

Oh, and is factory sub sonic 7.62x39 a myth?

Barrel and threads must be checked for concentricity before mounting adapter. It's an AK thing.

Suppressed AKs are the bomb diggity.

Mine involved a barrel chop job, rethreading and pin/weld by Two Rivers Arms in OKC so I don't know specifically how the mount would work on regular AK threads though.

staring down the bore for half an hour with the can mounted won't cut it? what would you suggest i do? i was thinking the arsenal and sf adapter would be a turn key solution?

that is an awesome setup you have there, i cant tell from your picture, is the detent pin still there? does it engage the sf adapter?

is that the ultimak rail or a different product?

No original detent pin. That thing started life as an SGL-21, and Two Rivers Arms cut the barrel back to 14.5" and moved the FSP back with it. Rethreaded the barrel and used an adapter so that I could use the Surefire 7.62 brake, which they then pinned/welded in place. So it's on there solid.

The rail on there is the Midwest SS-Extended.

Thank you for all the details, I am going to buy the geiselle product. Hopefully it can just be happy out of the box, I will check out Two Rivers for a cut down and re-thread if needed. I wonder if the SF AK mount comes with chamfered washer and shim set like my other ones. I will post results, I think I am going to get that arsenal AK today.. found it for $1040 :-)

This works in the same way as the Geissle tool, but for a lot less: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...?avs|Make_3=FN

It is 080-000-979WB SCAR 17s 7.62x51mm Barrel Straightness Gauge. In the SCAR armorer's manual, it is used for basically the same thing - checking barrel straightness and suppressor to barrel/mount concentricity, and Brownells has it in stock for $20 (retail) as an OE SCAR tool. They also have a 5.56 version, too.

I have used the Surefire SOCOM RC with one of my homebuilt 762X39 AKs and it works great. I now have a 5.56 one waiting on its permission slip, so hopefully they'll do a run of the 24mm thread mounts sometime soon to try it on an AK74.

i am eagerly awaiting the new magpul zhukov products and realized they will only work on stamped fixed stuck trunions, so i am passing on the sam7. i found 1 sgl21 new, going to call them in a bit see if its really in stock. rat, why did you have to use a thread on adapter for the SF muzzle device? couldnt the smith have threaded the barrel to directly accept the brake/flash hider? i am thinking about cutting down the barrel like yours and installing the front sight gas block combo with a pin/welded SF suppressor adapter to 16.1, should tuck nicely into the magpul zhukov/ultimak forend.

would a factory sgl21 have the muzzle device threading to the front sight base or the barrel? i cant figure this out. seems like some of the ak47s with the ak74 style brakes from the factory thread to the front sight. my wasr with slant does not and is left handed threads straight to the barrel, but a surefire adapter would be torqued against the front sight and not a proper shoulder. i think im going to try it out and see what happens.
