Been an lefty all my life and have been shooting M16s / ARs on and off for 20 years. Only had one problem with rounds being ejected across my face (slow burning cartridge in Panama that flash blinded me). Since I shoot civilian now, I'm always wearing eye protection. So in the unlikely event that were to happen again it should be a non issue. With the brass deflector found on the A2 and above rifles, I never had an issue with hot brass hitting my neck. The A1 was a completely different story though. As for the controls, I can operate the safety with out a problem. Nearly ditto for the bolt release. My only complaint still is the mag release, but that's only a minor annoyance. You do learn how to compensate. If this is your 1st AR I would pass on the Stag left handed model for now. Get the left handed model as your 3rd or 4th. As always, YMMV.

Lefty here with all right-handed toys.

Initially, brass flying centimeters from your face is bothersome, but you get over it really quick. My nose practically touches the charging handle so your experience my be different.

What really annoys me is shooting suppressed, but you'll get used to the blowback and start bringing rubbing alcohol to clean off the splatter on your safety glasses.

I also thought about purchasing lefty AR stuff, but I did not want worry about the availability issue of parts. Think about it... Look at the bolt itself. Who the hell has a spare lefty bolt on hand that you know?

Do you "need" one? No, I've only shot ARs right-handed and it works out ok. FWIW I bought a Stag in a right hand configuration. My only regret is not buying something better.

I agree with what others say about left-handed parts.

    Stick with RH.

Need? No. Want? Why the heck not?

I have a lefty from Stag but it is not used as a "work" gun. I understand that Noveske is connected to a company that also builds a L/H upper - however I have zero experience with their product.

The brass deflector on the A2, A4 and M4s all work just fine for me.

Good post...Another Lefty here. I have two RH AR's and a STAG Lefty. I felt I owed it to myself to have ONE LH firearm in the safe. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't get a LH AR. part's are hard to find and you pay a premium over the standard parts. While it is cool...I don't see the need. I actually think the RH (standard) is better for lefties anyways. The ejection port is on the right, very easy to see being a southpaw. The only real issue is the mag release, but that can be manipulated with your right thumb without too much trouble.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    stick with a standard upper;
then get a Norgon Ambi-Catch and a ambi selector if you want your AR to be 99.9% lefty friendly

Left handed shooters should NEVER buy a left handed weapon. I woul also advise against the BM.

Sure. There are SEVERAL reasons for NEVER buying a lefty weapon. Here is the short list:

    1. Some critical parts are not interchangeable with a standard AR.
    2. If you have to use a non lefty configured weapon, your muscle memory will not be there (battlefield pick up rule).

He's not really the only one. There are no real salient advantages, and significant disadvantages.

The biggest pro to RH only is conditioning/training yourself to deal with things in a RH configuration which virtually all ARs are going to be.

If all of your muscle memory is configured to a lefty setup, if you're forced to switch (likely or not) you'll be a step behind.

Better to train the muscle memory and besides parts are a lot easier to find.
