Should be fine if only one end touches another. Some of the double CR123 packed that way. I do use disposable ear form mainly to make sure they don't move around in the tube. I have 4 CR123 and 2 AA.

They are fine touching as long as you don't connect a wire from on end to the opposite end.![]()
I also buffer mine with some rubber faucet washers between them and at the ends to take up the slack in the tube. (No rattles)

I use foam earplugs between the batteries and at each end to get rid of the rattles.
