    Duty Ammunition

I am looking for advice on picking out some duty ammunition. It will be for an urban environment. Due to the state contract, my options are limited. We currently use Federal HST .40 165 grain (P40HST3) and Hornady TAP Urban .223 55 grain, however, these are not offered anymore. Firearms used are Sig P229 and older Bushmasters with 14.5 inch barrels.

As far as rifle, my options are:
-Remington R223R1 (.223 55 grain, pointed soft point)
-Winchester RA556B (.556 64 grain, bonded soft point)

My instinct on those options is to go with the Winchester .556 bonded round. Thoughts?

As far as pistol, my options are:
    -Federal P40HS1G (.40 180 grain, jacketed hollow point/Hydrashok round)
    -Remington GSB40SWB (.40 180 grain/Golden Saber bonded round)
    -Federal P40HST1 (.40 180 grain, jacketed hollow point/HST round)
-Winchester RA40B (.40 180 grain, bonded jacketed hollow point/Ranger round)

My instinct on those options is either the Federal P40HST1 or the Winchester RA40B. Thoughts?

I know the options are limited, but any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

RA556B and RA40B. For carry ammo I'd go hst, but if you are doing traffic stops, I'd prefer the bonded ammo. RA40B is a pretty good performer.

Did they stop making the 55 gr urban TAP or did it just go off your approved list? The reason I ask is that is what we carry and if it's not being made anymore I want to start getting in the ears of the firearms guys to get good heavier bonded rounds.

These would be my choice. Someone is doing you a favor by dumping the P40HST3.

What are you paying per round for the above? Are you required to buy off the bid list? Some ATK pricing is better than many others even without a contract, unless your contract specifies delivery terms.

Gotta admit, not what I was hoping to hear. We'll be stuck with that 55 gr. forever then.

Winchester RA556B is one of Doctor Gary Roberts' (DocGKR) preferred rounds where barrier penetration is important. You can google "Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo" to see more info, including info on pistol rounds.

I have to stick to the state contract. The RA556B is $758 per 1000 rounds. The P40HST1 is $305 per 1000. Prices include shipping.
