The only thing comparable now-a-days to a Larue rail is a boat anchor. They probably are still as solid since I owned one in back in 07' seeing as how they never changed their design. There are much better designs out there, for quadrails I would look at DD or Centurion.

I've used RIS IIs, and the new Lite Rail III.

The RIS II is solid, but I don't like the two piece design and it's wide. The Lite Rail III still feels like an I-beam, just shorter than the first Lite Rails. The Lite Rail III I had was so sharp I literally could not handle it without gloves or rail covers.

Larue rails are the best quad rails out there IMO. He doesn't need to change anything about 'em. They have the best profile and they're not full of sharp edges. There's nothing out there with the same strength to weight ratio. What does the ring hurt? Absolutely nothing unless you're trying to use an old Eotech with a magnifier.

    Boat anchor/derp!

Does the RIS and the lite III use the same barrel nuts out of curiosity?

If you want a quad rail they are still fine. The DD Lite is another good one, mine feels very similar to my Larue. That said my newer build has a Troy Alpha and a KeyMod or M-Lok tubular style will probably go on the next.

Larue is the best quad rail available imho. It's a good combination of weight, strength, features, and profile.

It's more than just 'want a quad rail'. It's a stout anti rotational attachment that works, and is stronger than ALL the 'clamp to the barrel nut' type handguards and rails out there. Daniel Defense, Larue, Geissele, do it as strong as they can. The weight is in the steel parts where they bolt on. Weight where it's worth it and it's not that far out toward the muzzle.

I had a Larue 7.0 rail. At one time it was seen by some as the 'answer' to the KAC FF RIS. But now they just seem fat.
Went URX. Don't see myself going back unless it is a Geissele of some kind.

If you go URX 3.1 you can add or remove rails, run it slick, or put on the little pad panels.. It feels more comfortable to me

I like the stability of the Larue quad rails- I don't want to worry about rail sections coming loose- I know it's a stretch if they are installed properly and loc titled down. I want simplicity and durability. The weight difference between the Larue rails and the newer DD rails is very minor (1-2 oz difference from what I can tell) I just wanted to make sure I hadn't overlooked any other options before I changed a bunch of rifles over. Thanks for everyone's input
