I am from MA but have been living in PA for work. I possess a MA LTC. PA does not require licensing to possess firearms, only if you are going to carry concealed.

I drive through PA, NJ, NY, and CT - some of the worst states for gun laws. I have hard cases that I look my firearm(s) in when I travel. I also run cable locks through them. I do not travel with magazines, I have left some in MA for when I come up. Usually I leave ammo in MA so I do not have any ammo on me when I travel.

I am out of rifle ammo and was going to grab some in PA and head up to MA this weekend.

I'm in PA, which has decent gun laws, and is "shall issue" for an LTCF, so if you are not prohibited, you get one, and OC is legal without an LTCF except in Philly. This may be struck down however, due to a new law that was recently passed, but at this time in order to OC in Philly you need an LTCF. Go figure. However, you can not carry loaded firearms in your car unless you have a PA LTCF. So, as you know, keep them locked, and unloaded. Be careful through NY, and NJ. They have no clue about gun rights there.

Completely different. I travel with firearms all the time and just passed from Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado for a class. As long as the weapons are legal, and there are no restrictions in that state, you can have loaded firearms in vehicles.

IIRC rules are completely different for truckers and I believe that it has to do with DOT stuff.

I've been legal as I have two lock boxes to keep stuff seperate, but my destinations are in ban states at times, then I leave. (Company policy on the other hand...)

Hell, I hope of what I've read and researched has me legal.

You know the funny thing is that I have been stopped once in NJ (local PD) and twice in CT (state PD) and I have yet to be asked if I have any weapons on me/in the vehicle. They did not even care that I was not wearing a seat belt.

Crazy as it sounds New York essentially does not recognize fopa. What I mean is unless you follow everything to the letter gun locked up ammo locked up seperate and have a copy of the law with you- there is a possibility in New York of still being arrested for illegal possession of a handgun if stopped and it is found! This is a classic example of why I am leaving.
You can say all you want about federal law, you might as well be crossing into Canada when you drive through New York.

That's just messed up. Those laws need to be challenged.

As for DOT. They don't care you have a weapon as long as you follow state and local laws. This is a big reason I'm want national reciprocal law.

As a former 13 year OTR driver..who has been off the road since 07....Ive often wondered have the rules changed for OTR drivers who cross state lines? At one time...all the time I was on the road...it was my understanding after asking many people many times that at NO TIME could someone engaged in interstate commerce in a commercial vehicle have a handgun or firearm. EVERY company I knew of forbade their drivers from carrying. As for DOT..well that just depended on what state you were in, why they were stopping you, the type of gun, if was hot, cold, raining and if the officer got laid recently or not. What are the rues now?

Carrying concealed weapons is a matter of state law. Your question can best be answered by the appropriate state government. Links to state government web sites are available on: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/webstate.htm

You may also want to contact the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) field office nearest you. To find the office nearest you, please consult the following web site: http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/about/conta...ieldroster.asp

NOPE That Statement should fall under the current thread Things done (SAID) so often they must be True..
EVERY company I knew of forbade their drivers from carrying.
PRIVATE COMPANY POLICY NOT STATE OR FEDERAL RULES OR STATUES
Fuel Truck driver for 10 years in aviation support, With regard to Private Company rules one company I worked for "Told us to get our concealed carry permits" so to be legal in whatever State had recipricosity Private Companies can set what ever rules they want for their employees as long as it's not in violation of any Local, State or Federal Statues....
