Regarding "paperclip" there is a difference between a nazi party member and a nazi war criminal. The biggest example is certainly von Braun. Without him, we wouldn't have beat the Russians to the moon, or even necessarily gotten there at all. He was absolutely a nazi, and in charge of Hitler's V1 and V2 weapon development. He also relied on slave labor for production of those weapons.

Does that make him a war criminal? Some say yes, some say no. But given the "deal" we gave to those at Unit 731 most of the guys who were covered by "paperclip" were boy scouts.

To my knowledge Wernher von Braun never conducted human experiments on victims of the Holocaust. He was a weapons designer for his country, no more a war criminal IMHO than Eugene Stoner or Mikhail Kalashnikov.

However "The Father of Space Medicine" Hubertus Strughold who designed the pressure suits and onboard life support systems for both the Gemini and Apollo astronauts did conduct human experiments on unwilling victims at Dachau where he exploded live subjects in pressure chambers.

Yes, because as someone who lived in Germany for close to a decade, I can tell you that would not be uncommon to see German made items marked in English. Especially if those items were being exported.

I knew about the experiments, didn't realize we actually brought that guy on board. Shouldn't be surprised I guess.
