    New Mexico bill regarding civil forfeiture eliminating LE as beneficiary.

    Good stuff. To seize assets the law requires a criminal conviction, proof that the person knew the assets were being used illegally, and eliminates the incentive for LEOs to steal by putting all assets into the general fund.

    Just awaiting the Governor's signature.

    Seems like a solid bill. It's unfortunate that what should be common sense requires such measures to be taken as the result of the actions of a very few.

    I agree. I find it embarrassing that we require a law to prevent LE from stealing private property sans a criminal conviction.
