So I think you pretty much got your answer on this. I'm hoping you stayed away from that purchase.
I think $500 is really pushing it.
I wouldnt give over $300 for it. Even for a friend![]()

My agency issues them for patrol rifle. Never had a malfunction or an issue with mine not running properly.

Oly Arms was my first AR - I really didn't know better and it was 2 years into the ban when I got it. I probably put 1500-2000 rounds through it, mostly that Malaysian 5.56. It had an 11.5" barrel with 5.5" flash suppressor on an A1 style upper. It ran OK for the most part but I broke an extractor and its pin at least once.
I ended up swapping out the upper for an M4 style upper from BM. After that it ran worse if I remember correctly - I had some Greek "Olympic" 5.56 stuff that just wouldn't feed right - worked very well in a Mini-14 though.
I sold it to someone behind the lines for slightly less than what a new Colt cost at the time.
My Dad's first AR was an Oly. He is pretty knowledgeable about weapons, but not ARs. The guy at the LGS convinced him that these were good rifles and even made in the USA. Told Dad they were 100% milspec. I hate that gun shop. Being a 20 year Marine Armorer it was hard for me to bite my tongue but I did. When things got crazy and the prices started soaring again he was able to sell it for $1200. I bough a 6920 and he got the itch again. This time around he at least bought an M&P. I feel much better now.![]()

Guy at Academy the other day asked the salesman the difference between the DPMS he was looking at and the Colt on the shelf... Salesman took a long pause, and eeked out the words "honestly, it's just preference... They're all the same thing."
On the upside, they had a few boxes of Remington Hog Hammers with a 62gr TSX bullet on sale, so... enduring that display of stupidity was worth it.
