Good. But the fallacy of "I can't afford it" has been shown to be just that. All of my AR's work so as long as you are comfortable with your choice, that's all that matters.

But I won't buy an Olympic. Ever. Never. Not again.

So how many of you were buying civilian AR's in the early 80's?

    How many manufacturers were there?

I've had an Olympic HBAR for about 15 - 20 years, it doesn't know it was a POS. I'll tell it.

I had an Oly 1:9" barrel for many years. It shot everything poorly, except 52gr match bullets, which it shot really well. YMMV.

I had an oly I bought 15 years ago. First firearm purchase ever.
The receiver cracked. From firing on the bench. That began my education on price and quality.
It's not easy being in a position to defend Olympic Arms.

    derp

It's ok. The first step is admitting you were wrong.

    Here, I'll go first.

My first civi AR was a Stag Arms. It said it was milspec. I thought it was GTG. I thought it was preference only. I thought they were all the same.

Then, I came here. I, personally, like to be shown when I'm wrong so I can make a more informed decision.
Was I butt hurt? A little. Did I get defensive? I don't think so. Did I have fun shooting the Stag before I sold it? Yeah. Heck, I was one of those "I got 500 rounds through it with no problems".
I then came to the decision to just sell it and start over instead of putting lip stick on a pig. So, I bought the BCM 20" from Grant. But I still had both at that time so it was interesting to compare the two.
Now, with my Anderson lower I'm not really in a hurry. I just want to do it right. Good stuff is pricey right now if you can find it.

If it works for you, shoot it.
Just don't think they are all the same like the LGS guy. They aren't. All it takes is a few hours of reading and researching to realistically come to come to that conclusion.

    My $.02

    *EDIT*
The "derp" was ME. I thought the title was for the edit. geeesh. Just like buying a Stag all over again. haha
*disclaimer* I'm not saying anyone else derped. Just me.

When things got crazy and the prices started soaring again he was able to sell it for $1200. I bough a 6920 and he got the itch again. This time around he at least bought an M&P. I feel much better now.
Why would he not listen to his own son who's armorer no less?

I was reading about this the other day completely ridiculous. Since then they invited someone to run their new and improved weapon hard and it STILL turned out to be crap. Even the charging handles were breaking over and over. They said they are going to keep trying I can't imagine how much money they have wasted trying to be something they never were and aren't. Also their prices were ridiculous.

A buddy of mine from work bought one about a year ago, it was his first AR. I tried to convince him to buy a 6920 at the time as they were selling for around $900 or so. But I couldn't convince him, he wanted the Olympic in 7.62. It was used and he payed around $900 for it. I asked him the other day, "How's that 7.62 running?" his reply, "It jams up quite a bit."

That could be a magazine issue.

    Or... a gas issue.

Like I said, I'd buy one for $300 if for nothing else to see how it shoots and to do a comparison against the proven spec'd rifles.
