Mag Tactical Systems Upper Receiver Failure, Causes?

    Hello All,

Been running this upper receiver for a little over a year. Estimated 750-1000 Rounds.

    Background on the gun:

    8.2" 300AAC, Pistol Gas
MI 7" GEN 2 FF Rail
    AAC Brakeout W/ SDN6
    Magtech Upper & Lower Receiver

Went out do do a function test on a new load this Easter weekend and brought ten rounds with me to check.

All functioned as normal. (10.2gr AA1680, 208 AMAX)

Pretty standard load but I just wanted to double check over the chronograph now that the weather has warmed back up.

Got home to break the gun down and saw this...

Any ideas as to how it would have happened? I understand it's magnesium alloy, but the gun was never dropped, jarred, or abused during it's usage.

I've tried to give Magtech a call twice today and just left a voicemail. Any experience with the CS there?

Their stuff is cast. I wouldn't have expected anything less. As cheap as uppers are just order a good one and move on. The most you are going to get out of them is another piece of shit upper.

I remember seeing some threads awhile back about the lowers kabooming, but I don't remember if it was wide spread, or what the outcome was. Truthfully I'm more worried about the upper than the lower. One contains an explosion and all...

Uppers and lowers don't explode! What's inside them does. Nothing exploded inside you upper and it is cracked. What more do you need to know? Cut your losses and get rid of that stuff.

I think you read into that a bit to literally. I'm well aware they don't explode, how a firearm functions, and that nothing exploded here.

This thread was in reference to the fact that others prior to myself had experienced cracking or a failure of some type with a Mag Tactical Systems product.

I was curious as to what the outcomes of their situations were, and how dealing with the manufacturer went.

I'm not here to start a "Let's bash Mag Tactical Systems" thread. Intent here was for constructive input, please take your bashing elsewhere.

If you send me that upper, I will replace it with a BALIOS-lite upper.

Just looked it up. I'm not familiar with 2A Armament. You want the damaged one? I'm curious as to why?

Sorry man... It looks like someone pulled the takedown pin and let the barrel side (pivot pin in place) drop open (rotate open) against the lower. As others have already said, time to move on.

Honestly just to check it out. If I can get you squared away at the same time, I figure it's a win win.
