If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

While both are available in 9MM I really don't like the rail on the 229. It's a personal thing more than anything, but I already have holsters for the 228.

The rail and the squared trigger guard are really the big differenced on the receiver, then the slide is a different shape, round vs squared.

Lots of love for the M11A1..

I really should have included the Sig 320 Compact in the poll. I may put up another poll between the winner of this one and the 320.

Kind of depends on the purpose. To me, the M11A1 would be better for CCW and the 229 would be better for HD. The only reason I say that is because of the rail, if you ever wanted to attach a light.

If you're not interested in the rail, M11A1.

I don't mean to be a prick, but your poll is confusing. First, the M11-A1 is a re-branded P229 without a rail - not a P228. The P228 was discontinued for public sell in the US several years ago. The only P228's being brought into the US now are for the military's M11 contract.

The P228 / M11 is a folded carbon slide constructed pistol. On the other hand, the P229 and M11-A1 use a forged stainless steel slide. The consensus from multiple SME's on PT.com is that the newer stainless slide P229 / M11A1 are more durable than older P228/M11's.

Keep in mind that you are getting a couple of extra features with the M11-A1 over the stock P229. These include a railless frame, SRT, night sights, and phos coated internals. These may or may not be important to you.

If going 9 mm, I'd take the M11A1 due to the SRT.

To be honest, though, as much as I like Sig P226s, I've never cared for the 228/229/M11A1. The 228 was probably my favorite of the 3, but they are not that durable.

The fact that holsters and magazines aren't even close to universal for the 228/229/M11A1 is enough for me to say **** that. The gun is also just a weird size. It's a very little bit smaller than a 226 in a way that makes almost no difference for CCW.

A 226 is really the only classic Sig I've ever liked enough to buy. Is there a reason you're looking at the 229/M11A1 instead of that?

WHile I do have a Sig 226 Dark Elite in 9mm, I had a 228 YEARS ago and sold it to buy my 239. I have had a 229 SAS in 40 S&W and I would have kept it IF it had been a 9mm. I do like the SRT, phosphate internals are what they are, nothing special to me. No Rail is a positive. I also like the classic lines of the slide on the 228. Holsters, would order a 228 specific, not a 228/229 fit all. Rosewood grips are stored away, didn't like the feel of them.

Just grabbed the 229 yesterday, and can't say that I like it like I remember the old 228. But that could just be time getting in the way.

As it is, I like the rail option. But I'd still scrap the poll for a P226 anyday.

You know, With me owning a 226, why would I want a 228/229?

Maybe I should have polled a Sig 320 compact and an HK VP9?

Maybe I should just get a Colt 1911 Combat Elite from Grant.
