Seems rather absurd for a company to build a lower and then introduce yet another pin diameter.

let me find the threads... there were a number of Colt users that claimed that thier rifles had the .154 pins...

i thought it was on here (which is why i didn't cite any sources)

I'm not going to get into what it is or isn't. But I will chime in on noticing a .020 difference visually. For someone who handles stuff like this on a regular basis or makes a living doing machine work it's GLARINGLY apparent. Atleast if they have ANY type of attention to detail. It'd be like handing a guy a 12 oz beer who usually gets a 20 oz., think you'd notice that? ;p

Mr. Jones. Thanx for the good pics and info of your BCG's and M&P. It's as I thought, the M&P was intially delivered with Mil Spec FCG pins. Thats why I jumped at the chance to buy a S&W M&P lower. I know S&W quality control and customer service are A1. I would be happy and proud to build a gun on one of their lowers. I was not aware, and I don't think it's common knowledge yet, that S&W is selling stripped lowers. That's why, when I discovered the discrepancy in the FCG pin size, I thought I would alert everybody. I surmised that the S&W lowers are possibly a mis-made batch from their contractor(Stag). If that is true, than that may be why the lowers showed up on the open market thru distributors w/o anybody hearing about any announcement. If I had heard of S&W starting to sell lowers, I would have ordered one. I think S&W is trying to dispose of a batch of mis-made lowers to recoupe their money. The lowers are still viable for use, I just did not want any of my brothers builders to caught unawares. Yes, anyone can build on a .172" FCG pin lower, I just choose not to. Don't like the big pins for earlier stated reasons and still don't to this day. Just my .02cents worth. Thank all of you for good discussion and info, and I wish every one be well.

Hello all. First post. My apologies for the small pic but had only 97.7 kb to play with. Anyway, the bottom half is my Stag lower and the upper half is the Smith and Wesson lower. Hopefully this will help with the on going discussion. Kudos to Joe for catching the difference in size and an extra thanks for getting $25 knocked off the price after he passed it up.
