I think all these safeties have different geometries so they interact with the detent differently. I've now tried three different safeties on my lower and you can see how some are cut deeper and shaped differently. I haven't taken the safety out of my BCM lower, but I'm sure it's different also. It has the ideal feel to me. FWIW, I picked up a Black Rain Ordnance safety and it's decent also. Safe and Fire are very positive, but the throw is a little too firm. It's not a brand I would normally buy, but I was able to pick it up for only $11 shipped and I didn't want to order a bunch of other stuff.

I have owned quite a few carbines over the past 30 years and the only carbine I owned that had the same symptoms as yours was a Colt LEO only carbine I owned in the mid 1990's. Disassemble the safety mechanism, clean it, properly lube it and reassemble it. That may take care of the issue. If not, replace the safety detent.
