Do you really hate Keymod? KMR is a top of the line rail regardless of what attachment standard it uses.
Before using M-Lok I thought key mod was an ugly but effective solution especially when the weight of the KMR was factored into everything.
After getting a Geissele MK.8 and playing with M-Lok parts, yes I hate key mod that much. I don't have much interest in supporting both platforms with in my collection, I want to be able easily switch accessories between guns. For instance weapon lights and bipods do not need to be dedicated to a gun and can be switched around to accommodate specific needs. Its nice to be able to easily take of a vertical grip, you can not with Key-Mod, anything behind it has to come off too.
So I am fully adopting M-Lok and dumping Key-Mod. I prefer the mounting system of M-Lok and the looks certainly help. If BCM starts selling M-Lok products I will buy a KMR M-Lok or two and M-Lok mod.3 vertical grips, otherwise BCM has lost my business because they don't offer product I'm interested in, they have good products, just not what I'm after. A KAC SR15 Mod2 M-Lok is something I am interested in and something I will purchase as soon as I find one available. The brochure is already out there.
I think M-Lok is superior, but I may still opt for the KMR anyway for 2 reasons:
1: Weight (the KMR is lightweight to the point of blowing my mind)
2. BCM's vertical grip design rocks.
I run my light at 12 o'clock with a Rosch SLM1 mount with a Surefire 6PX tactical light. The only other things I attach are a vfg and a sling quick detach point. So in my case struggling with the mounting system is silly. That said, Magpul got it right with M-Lok and I really wish BCM didn't make me have to choose to use the KMR. I think weight will win the battle for me and I'll wind up going with the KMR. I run the 1-4x Vortex Viper PST in an ADM Recon mount and that is a lot of weight on top. When choosing an optic like that, something has to give somewhere else in weight, and preferably on the front of the rifle.
Just received my 13" Troy Mlok rail.
In the hand it feels awesome, the transition of each flat side has a chamfer making it soft in the hard. The Geissele MK8 lacks this and feels much sharper in the hand.
I am interested to weigh it at home, it feels substantial in the hand. It basically is like a larger, heavier, Mlok KMR.
I'll post the weight later, and pics once I get the rest of the needed parts to build an upper with it.
Eta: 11.125 oz for rail with hardware and no barrel but. With a V7 Ti barrel but it will be right under 12oz total.
