Can anyone vouch for the robustness of the Alpha attachment method?
"If force can take away liberty, force is necessary to preserve it. It is the hatred of violence alongside the willingness to use violence that preserves liberty. In order for us to live as free men, we have to hate the violence that takes away liberty, yet at the same time, we must embrace the violence that preserves it. That is the paradox our founders appreciated and made work for over 200 years."

It locks in place to prevent it from sliding forward. It has one tab to prevent it from rotating one direction. The only thing stopping it from turning the other direction, unlocking and sliding is four friction tabs that act on the barrel nut.
I would describe it as ok. I would describe the BCM KMR and Geisele SMR mounting as great and something like a Daniel Defense lite rail as good.
This rail will get run through some classes. I'll see how it fairs.
To me th ultimate would be the Troy profile with the Geisele mounting system, or an Mlok KMR.
I just replaced a well used 13" Troy Alpha with their new MLok version. While always leery of the attachment method I never had any problems after years of hard use and lots of banging around in storage and transport. I also could never find any negative experiences with the attachment method online...
New Troy MLok observations:
- 4 attachment points instead of 3 on the Troy Alpha.
- Upgraded rail to nut attachment tabs with scored surfaces for increased friction grip
- Solid attachment and same minimal barrel deflection at the end when squeezed as an integrated Mega MLok, Noveske SWS, LT, Centurion CMR, or really any other quality FF rail I have had.
- The MLok octagonal shape really flows with the shape of upper better than the round/ridged Troy Alpha. I always thought the Alpha looked "too" bolted on if that makes sense...
- I attached NIB DD Fixed sights and initial laser boresighting show an almost perfect barrel to sight alignment with the front sight waayyy out front on the long rail.
- There is a slight rail to receiver gap. I used an ACOG rail mount to aid in installation to keep alignment.
- After my first try installing the rail, peering down the end of the rail at the attachment tabs I saw one tab not fully seated into its ridge in the rail, easily rectified although likely would have never caused any problems anyways.
While I would always prefer a dedicated FF barrel nut or Mega type monolithic-ish receiver, the Troy rail systems have worked fine on my Colt 14.5" lightweight upper with professionally perm attached KKF A2X that I don't want to grind off and redo much less professionally myself. The new MLok is aesthetically and practically pleasing enough to forego the purchase of a new lightweight upper simply to have an arguably "better" rail system. Although if BCM caved and went MLok I may be swayed by a one with a BFG CHF Enhanced Lightweight Fluted Barrel :-D
Hope this helps!
Dennis.
mine showed up about 2 weeks after i left for basic so i still havent even got to play with it yet. Itll be going on a permd 14.5 ive been working on for a while, ill post up some pics when i can.

There just seem to be other less costly choices with arguably better attachment and anti-rotation measures for me to choose this rail. The new rail from MI is a good example. Troy's presence here answering potential customer questions, in my experience, is nonchalant compared to other manufacturers.
