Need help on .223 and 5.56

    Hello M4 lover,
I'm new to this forums I just need some advice or experience like all of you.
Betwwen .223 and 5.56 which caliber do you prefer and why? I need some input about this 2 ammo before I place an order with RRA, thank you very much for all of your input. SOme one told me shooting .223 in 5.56 chamber is not accurated and NO shoot 5.56 in .223 chamber is this corrected?

There are lots of techincal differences but to the average shooter they are meaningless.

The main difference is that the 5.56 generates a little more pressure so you cant use 5.56 in .223 chambered rifles. Since you can use .223 in a 5.56 chamber, thats the prefered gun to buy. The accuracy difference won't be noticed by most average shooters.

If you were going for ultimate accuracy, the answer would be different. But for average plinking, 5.56 chamber is the way to go in my opinion since you can use either cartridge

    Glockstan,

The 5.56 and .223 ammo are identical in size however the chambers are different.

The 223 round was meant for a bolt action weapon. The 5.56 round is what the Military uses and is loaded to higher pressures and velocities than .223 ammo for sale at Wal Mart, many gun shops and different sites on the web.
Shooting a 5.56mm round in a weapon with a tight match .223 is not the safest thing to do.

    Hope this helps.

The neck and shoulder of a 5.56 chamber are a little larger than .223Rem.

Most RRA bbls have a 223 Wylde which is sort of in between. Since aquiring a Ned Christiansen 5.56 NATO neck and throat reamer, I did all my bbls except for the Noveske.

My 3-gun AR has a 20" Bushy 1x9 fluted (supposedly 5.56 chamber), the reamer took a little of the chamber. It's still shooting under 1 MOA using American Eagle 55gr FMJ. Less accurate? Maybe but I'm not good enough to tell.

Shooting 5.56mm NATO in a .223 chamber can cause primers to come out of the casings and jam up the gun. This was why the reamer was designed by Ned.

Here's some good info on Randall Rauschs' website http://www.ar15barrels.com/data/223vs556.pdf

I don't remember where I got this, and I can't vouche for the accuracy, but the picture below shows the differences between the SAAMI and NATO chambers.
