There's really no comparison between a suppressed 5.56 shot and a suppressed .45 shot (assuming you're talking subs in the 9mm).

The Osprey is a nice can. Its internal volume causes it to be quieter than most, but the monicore design does result in some FRP. I have no the the 9Osprey and 45Osprey, plus a couple Octanes. The 45Osprey was actually my first pistol can.

The ammo makes a much bigger difference with 9mm. The 115/124 factory loads will be supersonic, while 147/158 will be subsonic. Handloads give you all kinds of options. All common .45 ammo will be subsonic.

We all know that iPhone videos don't do the noise reduction justice, but I keep one handy I made that gives you an idea. It's a 7" 9mm AR w/ and w/o 45Osprey. I loaded a mag rotating through 115/124/147 grain ammo. Two sets without can, the rest with. (I did the same thing with a Glock, but somebody else was shooting at the same time and it didn't come out as good as the AR version, but the performance is very similar).

    Enjoy.

I bought the Osprey for the ability to shoot out of multiple hosts and calibers. And 3 years later have never shot anything but 9mm out of it. So I bought a specific 9mm can. I was in the same boat as you with the dogs not liking gunfire. Yesterday I shot 3 boxes of Emcon suppressor specific ammo with both dogs running around about 30 Yards behind me with my wife. They had no idea what was going on. When shooting the Osprey 45, I would need to shoot it wet to achieve same 9mm suppresson. Especially first round.

I would say if you plan to shoot 9mm mainly. Get a 9mm can. Then decide if you even shoot or like it enough to get another for your other calibers. I very rarely shoot suppressed pistol because of the in ability to holster the weapon and unless you have a shooting bench or table you can just set it on, it's kind of a pain. Especially with a hot suppressor. I will say it is nice for the times the wife and dogs are around and and you dont need everyone with ear pro on. To me, I get a lot more out of rifle suppressors and they see 10x use.

Stick with a specific caliber for best suppression. If I didn't get the Ti-rant for 200 bucks with the promo going on, I would have picked up an Osprey 9mm. But you really can't go wrong with the cans mentioned above. Just in my opinion with the experience I have had, stick to a specific dedicated caliber pistol can with some decent subsconic ammo. Pretty much all 147gr 9mm will do.
Outstanding advice, I will add though that a nightstand pistol is not complete without a can. Also, if you want to shoot a pistol as quiet as could be, Osprey 9 shot wet with Fiocchi 158gr gets pretty damn quiet!

FRP is more of a problem on the Osprey 45 than the Osprey 9, like you I own both models. In fact I don't even notice a FRP on the Osprey 9, although monocore designs in general give you FRP.

Octane 45HD, one of, if not the quietest pistol can. As that appears to be your priority over size weight etc.....get the 9mm and 45ACP pistons and you'll be fine.

ETA: I used this on my dog and it works very well. A much cheaper solution and a must if the dog is a hunting dog like mine.

Fireman, you have the opportunity to shoot a ton of cans, so whats your thoughts - what's the quietest 9mm and 45 can shot dry that you have shot?

My Tirants are hard to beat for tone. I think people often overlook tone when shopping for a new suppressor. They get so hung up on dB numbers that they forget about tone, back pressure, weight, length ease of cleaning, etc.

That being said..... there is no perfect answer. You must choose the can that fits your host goals and firing schedule. This is why I acquire a ton of cans.... no one can is perfect. Some are better on certain hosts than others and some have better tone yet are a PITA to clean (Tirants)

I never clean my Tirants anymore as they are a PITA. That and I have somewhere around 15-20 pistol cans so I spread the firing schedule around and no one can gets entirely too dirty before I get around to cleaning them.

That is considerably cheaper, I'm going to give this a try for sure thanks for the link!

As far as suppressors go I think I'll go with an Osprey 9 and a glock 19 package type thing. Since silencerco makes barrels for them now that will make it simpler, I'm a huge fan of silencerco's customer service and it seems like their cans are top shelf as well. My specwar may not be as "accurate" as a thunderbeast but I can't shoot well enough to tell the difference regardless.

I just got my Octane 9 out of jail last weekend and it's a blast. I agree with what one poster said in using his rifle suppressors much more than his pistol suppressors. I got the Octane because I do have an HK MP5K clone so I would run that in some of the tactical shoots I do. I also have a Glock 17 with threaded barrel that I can mount on but it probably won't see nearly as much use.
