To me it would be like watching a movie about the Battle at Concord Bridge that was filmed in Arizona! LOL

You think they could have done a little better on picking a place to film something like this.

The acting AND the setting just blew it for me...sorry.

I've not watched, but I kinda figured it'd be done poorly.

One of my complaints: When directors have actors speak a Southern/Western dialect as if they were Civil War actors, sounding much like Rhett Butler in Gone With The Breeze.

Texas and Southerners don't sound like that when they speak...

Close your eyes and yeah...it sounded like "Gone With the Wind" type accents!

    This is Texas...not Georgia. LOL

Disappointing to say the least and from a channel that is supposed to be all about history. So much for accuracy.

Hate to say it but Discovery, Nat Geo and History have all gone the way of reality TV shows. When you can make a fake documentary about Mermaids then you know something is wrong.
"If you love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen"

On the subject of accents... I am not saying the producers/directors are right/wrong or whatever, but what they portray is simply dramatic license for effect. Truth is, what you "hear" now in Texas is simply an evolution of elocution.

Original Texicans came from all over and I am pretty sure Davy Crockett didn't have a modern Texas accent. Anymore than Col. Travis or Sam Houston.

I'll agree that it may be somewhere between good documentary and reality TV... in the end it is simply entertainment.

I am reminded of one of the complaints of the movie "Valkyrie" was that Tom Cruise didn't use the least bit of a "German" accent. The implied thought that if he had, it would have made a more believable character.

Did anyone else FROM Texas think, "where the hell did they get this setting...it does not even remotely LOOK like our state?"

The setting just blew it for me. There was loads of dust everywhere and tons of high, rocky crags and hardly any trees. Hello! San Antonio and the South Central Texas landscape is rolling hills and TONS of trees! It looked as if they filmed this in Southern Arizona or Northern Mexico and looked NOTHING like Texas.

They have done this in many other films, which does NOt make it right - not all of Texas looks like Big Bend!

Sorry...that ruined the series for me. If you are not from here...it probably does not bother you but it made the series look odd...sorry!

Yep, the first thing I said to my wife,.....I guess I didn't realize San Antonio is only a few miles from Big Bend.

My favorite is when they show Texas in western movies and you see saguaro cactus!

Hello! There is NO cactus like that anywhere near Texas!

    ....Hollywood...LOL

Texas Rising on History Channel starts tonight

I agree. When I see a movie based on an actual life event changed, I find myself becoming increasingly critical of it.

Lone Survivor and American Sniper are two others that really got me pissed as well, after reading the books and the. Watching the hack job movies, but I guess this is how it works.

    Take Care,

    Buzz
