We're not talking about title 1 firearms either or serial numbers. We're talking about title 2 firearms and a rule that says caliber must be engraved on lower if not already present there or present and readily visible on the barrel.

And about the glock, the serial number is in like 2 places, maybe 3 so that does t even matter unless you swap a barrel

Rules are the same for any required marking.

2 of the 3 SNs can be removed.

Instead of trying to nitpick the example, try to understand the concept.

My question, which has nothing to do with your question, is why waste a 'sterile' form 1 lower on an SBR? Isn't there a $40 Anderson lower laying around somewhere you could throw a stamp on?

...I guess unless your gun mojo is so strong you have mad stacks of form 1 lowers laying around...

I'm not advocating breaking any laws, but too many times rumors recirculate instilling this fear of the ATF (constructive possession, trust bank accounts, etc) that lead to many "de-facto" rules created by the end users themselves.

For example. My 11.5" SBR has a 10.75" hand guard, obscuring the barrel caliber markings. The lower is engraved multi. The gun is papered as a 5.56. This may be improper by definition, but I don't feel I'll have an issue with it.

I've never seen, heard, nor read of an ATF representative being that over-zealous with the enforcement.

To speak to your overall length issue, this gun actually started life as a 10.5". Once I re-barreled to 11.5" I wrote the ATF a letter at their request, not requirement, to update the registry.

11 months later I received a letter stating "Mr.GrahamKAC, your requested changes have been reflected. Regards, ATF" -Literally one sentence, not a high item on the priority list.

Mind you my original Form 1 still says 10.5"

I'll roll the dice when it comes to being stopped by an overzealous ATF agent with a tape measure in his pocket that wants to jam me up regarding the 1" discrepancy on my paperwork.
