Red face A road well traveled ..... RRA - (1st AR) before finding this site

Logged in as "Worn Out" which is telling. I went through Quantico before Nam was a headline. Grew up hunting, shooting and owning a closet full of guns. I bought my first AR several years ago only when it looked as if the libs would ban me from ever owning one. The search was not really scientific or even well thought out. I bought an Entry Operator because it was the only one on the shelf. A thousand rounds later, I have no regrets. Love it's accuracy and the trigger is pretty functional. Then, several months ago, I stumbled across this site. Damn, I should have known better.

Enlightened, educated by the wonderful expertise of this M4 group, I now have a DD v11 as my HD weapon. Interestingly, the trigger is not nearly as smooth as the RRA, but I bask in its reliability & reputation. With an Aimpoint Comp 4s, and the carbine's remarkable light weight, I feel just like I did 50 years ago while running the hills of Quantico. And, the over weight, reportedly second tier RRA - I plan to mount a 3x9 MRT and use it to reach out to distant, non-combatative targets. Sound like a good plan?

The mil spec trigger in the DD won't feel as smooth as the RRA but will long out last it. The ALG QMS and ACT are a good remedy if you don't mind a single stage trigger.

The DD trigger will get a little better after some rounds. Probably not as good as the QMS though, which I have owned and do recommend. Otherwise get a SSA if you want the 2 stage (I'm assuming the RRA has their 2 stage trigger in it.)

I'm no optics pro and I have no first hand exp with the mk4 scopes, but there are a ton of other options that are offered up these days in place of them. Honestly, now that I have played around with some scopes,"and use it to reach out to distant, non-combatative targets." sounds to me like you may want to check out the 1-6 scopes that are popping up. They are pretty awesome for all purpose shooting.

Most knocks against RRA rifles are well deserved, however they do have a pretty nice feeling two stage trigger. If you're looking for a cheap upgrade, either of the ALG offerings will suit you fine.

RRA makes a nice match trigger, but don't expect the same service life from a match trigger that you would a standard trigger. I replaced my RRA match triggers every 2nd barrel on my match rifles, which would be anywhere from 8,000 rounds to 11,000 rounds.

There is nothing wrong with a standard trigger on a carbine. A standard trigger will wear in and get smoother with use.

I know of 3 personal instances of the RRA match trigger failing within a couple of thousand rounds. The most recent was about 10 days ago when it malfunctioned and caused it to fire a long burst. There are better triggers out there.

Agreed IG. My RRA NM trigger was capable of peculiar firing with only about 400 rds through it. It is an accurate gun, no complaints there, but I do not trust it. It is my CMP comp gun, irons only. But it stays on the wall until I replace the trigger. Threw the NM trigger away. My Colts and BCMs do the shooting around here. My RRA 20" was my first AR. I've since learned a lot here.

I haven't bought a RRA trigger in over 2 years. Mine have always lasted considerably longer. What would you recommend for a CMP Match legal trigger that will last 8,000 to 10,000 rounds?

My RRA has always worked fine. Been through a few classes and survive just fine.

That being said, the NM trigger was replaced long ago, but not because of malfunctions.

Or just get a G2S if you don't want to spring for the SSA. 25% cheaper but no detectable trigger pull difference IME.
