If I were the OP, I would look to see if the tab is contacting the trigger guard, or the lower. Sometimes the trigger guard sits higher than the lower, so it would be contacting the tab. File the affected area (trigger guard or lower) until a gap is present with a loaded and seated mag.
Great photos and clear instructions! That's just what I needed. Thank you.

I've encountered this myself when slamming a mag in real fast. Almost as if the magazine bounces off the gun. With the gen 3s, reloading requires less speed and more torque to seat. I'm not a fan personally.

I decided that this was not a problem a grown man should fret over and just fixed my lower. Took about 5 minutes...

Do you expect the OP to carry around a file in case one of his teammates happens to hand him a Gen 3 PMAG and then he is going to stop what he is doing to ensure proper fitment??
If depending on the team for extra rounds you should all be packing Spec magazines!!! Spec rifles too! I have never been and never will be a LEO but for the life of me cannot understand why all officers are not issued weapons. Why do they allow an officer to carry duty weapons the agency does NOT own??

According to the thread, there is no spec for this portion of the mag well.

That's exactly why I didn't like the Gen M3s too. That and I had second round cross-up issues back when they first came out.

I filed down the magwell on my lower this today. Went and ran a few mags through it this afternoon. Reloads are much easier. The Gen3 still doesn't seat as easy as Gen M2. There's just something about the Gen M3s that doesn't feel right.

I had one mag today where the bolt did not strip the first round out of the mag when I hit the bolt release. I have no idea how that could even be possible, but it happened. I confirmed that the mag was seated before I chambered a round. Has me spooked.

For touch up try Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black - follow the directions on the bottle. If you've never tried it you might be surprised how well it works

It's called money and it's the same reason why people will buy a 799.00 Bushmaster over an 899.00 Colt. Now imagine buying 10-1000 rifles at a time. Coupled with the fact that some cities/municipalities will spend more money on computers, crap and other stuff or administrators who don't think officers should be issued rifles and it's easy to understand. So to insulate themselves when the shit goes south the onus is on the officer by telling him he can have his rifle, if he pays for it.

Or why administrators get brand new unmarked cars every two years, but patrol is forced to drive ten year old clunkers in pursuits.

But, hey, nothing to be bitter about. :/
