WOW: Rep. Bishop Introduces Bill To Gut “Sporting Purposes,” Prohibit Ammo Bans

    Someone pinch me...

The National Rifle Association today announced support for H.R. 2710, federal legislation aimed at limiting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) from using executive overreach to undermine the Second Amendment. H.R. 2710 was introduced by United States Representative Rob Bishop (UT-1).

“This important legislation would prevent arbitrary ammunition bans like the one attempted earlier this year by the Obama Administration,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “With the support of America’s law-abiding gun owners, the NRA was able to beat back Obama’s attempt to ban ammunition used by millions of law-abiding Americans every day for target shooting, hunting, and self-defense. This legislation would fix the law to protect us from similar government overreach in the future.”

This is pretty awesome legislation. And normally, I am for fewer laws than I am more.

We need to get behind this!
If you aren't armed when you take a dump in your own home then your opinion on what is a practical daily carry weapon isn't interesting to me.

This is a good step in the right direction and Mr. Bishop needs all of our support.

I am all for it, but does anyone have reason this has a snowballs chance in hell of making it?

    This is great!

Already emailed all my reps and sent the call out to everyone I know.

Start calling emailing and don't let up. A few minutes a day from everyone of us and everyone we know who would get behind this might just make a difference.
We interrupt this programme to bring you an important news bulletin: the suspect in the Happy Times All-Girl Glee Club slaying has fled the scene and has managed to elude the police. He is armed and dangerous, and has been spotted in the West Side area, armed with a meat cleaver in one hand and his genitals in the other...

    Who cares!
How much shit do the anti's consistently fling at the wall until some sticks?
Might as well fling something back and let them play cleanup for a change... Even if it doesn't pass it will be fun to watch them running around in a hand-wringing panic over it.

    Unreal.

    Go go go!

Glad to see someone listening to a vast majority of the population for a change, and protecting the people instead of trying to be a nanny.

Brady Law failed first 5 times it was introduced. Gun grabbers did not quit even though they knew Reaga/nBush would not sign it. Make legislators go on record for this, those that do not sign, take action next election.

    The language still sucks.

"‘recognized as suitable for lawful purposes’’ is still arbitrary enough for ATF to continue making "determinations." They will simply decide Firearm A is "not recognized as suitable for lawful purposes."

It's a baby step, but the sporter clause needs to be completely stripped. It didn't exist prior to 1968 and we don't need it now.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.
