I have used an LED in similar situations to what you are referring and I think personally the LED will serve you fine. I am not entirely sure if "one better than the other" will sum it up so easily. The Scoutlight with the new KX2C head should serve you well.

I entirely agree that cutting corners on certain gear isn't debatable.

Just throwing some ideas out there, but has anyone ever though of mounting a scout on a DD offset optic mount? Like this? I think bringing the light up to a high 11 o'clock may aid in "over the top" activation when firing from transition shoulder? It may also reduce shadowing. Of course it may put the light up so high as to negate all of these benefits...
