    Seeking build advice

I've been away from the AR game for a little while and want to get back in. Have no ar type rifles currently. Previously had a bcm 16 in carbine that I had to sell due to financial reasons. I want this AR to be a primarily a defensive gun that I will take some courses with and take to the range and possibly hunt with once a year. For budget reasons and also to get exactly what I want I am thinking about building one. If I don't build I would buy a complete upper and either a complete lower or build one. I'd love to be able to afford a noveske, kac, larue but can't. However I don't want bottom of the barrel either. PSA's CHF uppers are tempting for the price but am hesitant. Reliability followed by accuracy is most important to me. Looking at anywhere from a 14.5-16" DI midlength or 18" rifle length max. Not interested in an sbr or target/varmint length on this one. If I build is like to spend most money on the barrel, bcg and trigger. A CHF barrel or something nice from white oak or Rainer would be nice. I'd like to avoid spending more than 11-1200 not including sights, comp, flashlight which I will add later. I don't need this to have record breaking groups or any super fancy gear. I need reliability. Should I buy a bcm, dd or other brand upper and build a lower or just build the whole rifle? Can someone point me towards reliable but not expensive brands for recievers and random parts? Maybe I should phrase it as:
You have $1100 ( without sights) to build the nicest midlength rifle possible. How would you build it?

    $325 BCM Blem Lower
    http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...y=LWR-BCM-BLEM

    $612 BCM BFH LW w/BCG
    http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...=16-BFH-LW-MID

    $33 Mid Handguard
    http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...key=MOE-HG-MID

    $55 rear MBUS
    http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...ion&key=MBUS2R

    $1,025

Leaves a little room for tax, shipping, transfers. Would prefer the MBUS pro but that could be added later.

Tell them M4C sent you, hehe.

Stick to BCM or DD. PSA can be hit and miss. BCM still has deals going for uppers with BCGs, and charging handles at discounted prices.

Pair this with a lower of your choice, Aero Precision works affordably. Add a Sionics LPK or Colt from Grant then pick a trigger of your choice.

If you ask PSA for the premium upper you'll 100% get a chf FN barrel . I live in sc and work in Columbia so if been there many times and talked to the builders and I've seen with my own eyes the barrels come in the door straight from FN witch is also from Columbia!
With that said I have 1 PSA that I built and it has the chf fn barrel 14.5 and it has a very good moa . I get 1,5" moa at 100yrds with match grade amo. Using a Geis. Trigger and it has a nickel boron BCG . Nothing fancy really . I've got $967 in weapon only .
But I have a new KAC SR15 E3 MOD2 that will lay the smack down on any of my AR's with almost any amo lol
The KAC SR15 MOD2 is amazing and for $1990 I have yet to find , build a ar that has the MOA Quality and dependability of my Knights Armament AR
I own factory built Noveske weapons and let me say they are very very accurate as well .
IMHO based on what you want and your budget I'd buy A NOVESKE barrel and build my weapon around it

It's almost 1/2 your budget but you get what you pay for

Hammer forged chrome molly vanadium made by FN that is referred to as "Machine Gun Steel" by virtue of its use in FN's M249 and M240 weapons.

Thanks guys for replies and input. I think i may build or go with bcm upper without hand guards then build the rest. I'd prefer not to spend more than $700 at once so I feel like parting it out mostly I will be able to put higher quality parts in and make a $2000 gun vs $1000 if I buy pieces (uppers, lowers) together.

I'd rather have solid midrange components throughout the gun than a high end barrel resulting in cheap other parts. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...rifle-kit.html I'd consider something like that and then upgrade any parts you aren't happy with. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...fle-kit-1.html or they have a somewhat heavier profile if you prefer. Obviously you can buy or build nicer rifles than the PSA ones, but it's well within your budget and gives you the space to customize it.

If you want to just buy something, http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-B...-elw-kmr13.htm would be a good choice, although you'd have less wiggle room for other components. $755 upper + $70 BCG/CH (you'd be dumb not to get BCM BCG/CH for $70), whatever lower you like (not too important, if you want cheap but nice I'd likely pick Aero Precision), $60 puts you at $885. You still need LPK, grip, stock but that isn't too hard with the $2-300 you have left over.

Given the OP's budget, this would be very hard to beat.

I agree with the advice on the BCM. I can also recommend this from Sionics.

For $800 and you add the A5 system, I think this is a good option. I picked one up a few months ago and have been very pleased.
