thanks for the pics RD62
I definitely need to get one of the VLTOR mounts one of these days.
Right now I'm using the Daniel Defense, which puts the gun closer to 10 o'clock than 11 o'clock. It works, but I'd like to play with the VLTOR to see if it's a little more ergonomic for me.
My set-up:

To me and I'm sure others will throw their $.02 in, there is more muscle fatigue associated with holding the forward grip than just having it rest in your palm.?
I just want to equip one SBR with the forward grip / light setup and the other the way I described above.
Just humor me!
As one of the others suggested, the Surefire 500A could get me what I want but I would have to actually test drive it before I drop 3-5 large on it.
I just need a way to elevate the 951 in this picture as viewed from the bottom of the upper.
Now get to work on my solution people!
The thing with the way I want it, is that the hand occupies 3 sides of the rifle!
Geez at the pics posted...... I haven't even had time to peruse them
I may figure out something to my liking just keep the pics coming.
I just got in a DD Offset mount and am awaiting another used Surefire 6R so I don't mess up my blood stained Border Patrol 6R(don't ask)

RD62, I need more cowbell in those photos! Read:resolution.
I'll see what I get with the DD offset mount when the light comes in.
I guess that setup you have wont work unless you have the forward grip, because of the positionning of the thumb. I may see how much it would be to add another thumb to my existing thumb so that I can get my desired setup.
Thanks for all the help on this everyone.
Sorry about the small pics.
I snapped em quick and sized them to upload quick. I thought they'd give you a pretty good idea though....
I love DD stuff and their off-set mount should get you about the same spot, but further out from the rail. The VLTOR and VTAC tuck the light in closer which I prefer for several reasons... Closer to the bore, I find it easier for thumb activation, and I feel it is less subject to impacts and less obscured by obstacles because it is tight in against the rail.
I ran the 16" rifle with the VTAC mount and no VFG for a couple of weeks, and it worked fine. My preference though is for the VFG, and I am trying to keep the two rifles the same in all but barrel length and optics.

RD62,
with the light setup in your pics - is the under FSB/barrel side sling mount a no go?
I have a front sling under the FSB, I found that using it for a tac sling is clumsy at best. It doesn't allow the weapon to hang muzzle down easily. The sling always get tangle up. I prefer a side sling mount.
If anybody is interested, I just put my Daniel Defense Offset light mount for sale.

To answer you sling swivel question...
I have no idea. The swivel was long ago removed from the middy and I use the sling mounts on the rear of the Omega rails for my slings anyway. I have no use for the standard front sling swivel. A Colt style side mount FSB swivel would work fine, but I prefer to run mine to the rear of the handguard.

The sling situation is easily workable with the V-tac 12 o'clocked and the pictured sling mount found at Blueforcegear.com. I like this because I can keep the sling attached at the front of the rail, and am not limited by having to mount the sling back by the upper receiver... All the regular 2 point carry methods, plus the "tactical" carry methods.
