I think there is a large segment of the market that makes comparisons off barrel length. They don't take frame size into consideration.

The grip on the VP9 is too damned long for me to do anything with that doesn't involve running around playing Tier 1 operator dress-up.

EVERY TIME a new polymer gun comes out, there's people asking for it in G19 size. The differences are minor. The differences, for me at least, are noticeable. I'm just finding it harder to get excited about another chunky polymer handgun that'll be a chore for me to dress around. I'd be excited to see more competition to guns like the PPS.

VP9 has barrel lenght almost same as G19, but slide protrudes a little more over the hand that Glock slide, so slide length is comparable to G17. Grip length is G17 size. So basically VP9 is either G19 or G17 sized, depending at what one looks.

It was designed with open, uniformed carry in mind, like it was with P30 (P30 was designed for German Border Guard, VP9 project is answer for Bavarian Police plans to replace P7M13 with modern, striker fired pistol).

I am HK's biggest fan but there are a few items that need to be overcome:

    1. Parts availability
    2. Armorer's Manuals (I know why they don't offer them)
    3. The pistol is a bit more complicated compared to the 19

I will say the following in the VP9's behalf:

If one modifies the 19 "as it should be":

    Glockmeister SS Recoil Spring Ass'y

    Apex Tactical Failure Resistant Extractor

Vickers Tactical mag release and slide stop levers

Decent iron sights of your choice

    Stock plug

The GLOCK costs *MORE* than the VP9. The GLOCK is then an $850 proposition as opposed to $550. It's still worth every penny, kinda (if GLOCK did it's part all but the sights the pistol would cost maybe $50 more but things are what they are.

    I agree that a mid-sizes VP9 using P2000 mags would be a game changer. Let's hope!

Patience guys, G3K on HKPRO has close corporate ties to HK. He stated that the VP series was designed as a family of weapons, to include the fullsize, compact, and subcompact renditions. It feels like a long wait though. I would love a VP in P2000 size. Perfect!

I got tired of all the talk so I broke out the dremel!

total hack job that i did in an hour but I HAD TO KNOW if it would work.

It works so well that I can't even bring myself to clean it up despite horrified interweb cries.

I'd like to see someone with talent and attention to detail do a better job but mine just works and is my EDC!
