Sometimes I wonder how many times these are "QC" issues vs "Production Manager" authorizations.
Is it just an optical illusion or just that dirty but does the barrel extension look parkerized to anyone else?
I have a rifle built on a Sabre midlength barrel and certainly won't be changing a thing. If BCM starts selling stripped barrels, I may pick one up for safekeeping.
We all have to make our purchase decisions based on the best products and information we have at the present. For almost 2 years, BCM barrels were vaporware. To answer if it's worth it to switch, ask yourself what the probability is that your barrel will explode because it was not individually HPT'd and MPI'd
I want a BCM middie big time.
But, I have to say, a manufacturer that doesn't make any for two years, then starts putting them out again scares me as much as a manufacturer that makes too many and grows too fast.
While I'm sure the new BCM's are going to be superb, it's kinda like a first year model car. I'm not going to buy it until I see that there are no kinks and things are good to go. They'll probably be gone by then, but I hope not.
LS45,
Yes, you are correct - if you wait, they will be gone by then. I promise.
The reason there will ALWAYS be delays in the BCM program is that the specifications are NEVER adjusted in an effort to get a product ready to ship. BCM is a like a boutique-OEM, and does not require a continuing flow of cash to stay operational. So we can afford to sit and wait until the product is exactly what it is supposed to be before the production continues.
jlficken,
Your SD is a good product. If its treating you right, I would keep it and enjoy it.
