.338 Federal 8" SBR Velocity Results have finally come in

Whats up all my m4 carbine forum peeps..Several months ago i created a thread https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread...ot-SBR-Project on my 8" SBR 338 federal project and at that time it was in the finalized stages of completion..Today it is complete and i have chronographed it with some pretty interesting results.. Shooting a few of the Federal Factory 180gr Accubond Nosler Ballistic tips i was clocking in around 2139fps-2171fps and shooting some of the American Eagle 185gr soft point factory ammo i was getting around 2087fps-2106fps...I still have some more testing to do with some lighter loads such as the Barnes 160gr ballistic tips..And i have some video footage that i will be releasing of my test results later this week. But for now i have attached a few photos for your viewing..Please tell me what you think..

That would be an awesome all around hunting rig. What kind of accuracy are you seeing from 200yds and in? Also, how much does it weigh?

That is rediculous. Nice build! Btw, what stock is that?

Having never shot 338fed, what's the blast like? I'm assuming it's a little less than a 308 of that length?

I havent tried it out yet..but i will soon and post the results here..The weight of it is a little heavy when fully loaded with 25rounds in a pmag..but it is much lighter than my standard AR15 using a 18" barrel

Thanx glad you like it.. I am using the hogue overmolded butt stock.. here is a link http://www.hogueinc.com/tacrifles/ar15/buttstocks ..The blast on it is ridiculous..Everytime i pulled the trigger and shot it through the chrony the muzzle blast blew apart the steel rods and sun shade..so for everytime i shot it, i had to rebuild the chrony lol.. The overall length is about the same as the .308 the only difference is it is shooting a a larger bullet with more power behind it..

Sweet corn muffins! That makes the Beowulf and SOCOM seen vaguely normal. Strap a linear compensator on the front of it, and you could simultaneously kill and cook anything that you shot on the spot.

Seriously though, that is a lot more velocity than I would've figured for such a beast. Curious if handloads with a different powder designed for a shorter barrel wouldn't give even better results. I bet that somebody has been doing serious load development with a TC Contender, or a Savage Striker.

I had to look up .338 Federal, I'm reading its s necked up .308 with heavier rounds going at the same speed or faster, I'm not sure about SBR form but I wonder why isn't this round more popular? It seems like a huge winner, I'd love to see FN offer a .338 Federal barrel for the SCAR.

How interesting. I have been working on a .338 SR25 based 13.5"ish system. This could have potential, depending on things. Very interesting it is.

I was expecting the loss of around 500fps from the factory loads that i was using and i was almost correct..I have a friend cooking up some 160gr Barnes loads..i think i might gain around 150fps more faster than my Nosler 180gr factory loads..
