He's not doing you a "favor" any more than the lady renewing your license at the DMV is. Its just another step in the regulatory process. I see no reason to be fine with every other part of it but then refuse to drop a form off at the Sheriff's office.

You can keep a 16" upper on hand and just slap it on when you want to travel out of state w/o the SBR travel paperwork. Just leave the short bbl at home.

Or just build an AR pistol... cheaper alternative. I missed out using my 300blk SBR on a hog hunt because the ATF lost my form to take my SBR out of state.

Edit to add: just last week I went and visited family down in Maryland. I legally was able to take my 11.5" BCM upper with me by slapping it onto an AR pistol lower.

    This.

Here in Canada we don't have SBR laws (all AR's are classified the same regardless of barrel lenght) and the vast majority of AR's are sporting short barrels, that is, they are shorter than 16".

I just love the 10.5" LMT barrel.

When I travel it's usually with me. If not, it's in the safe. My wife is the only one with safe access. She is also on the trust.

But how do you guys retain control of your SBR that is back home in tact? ETA: An example being I doubt you keep the gun with you at all times in state.

I'd imagine that the safe that houses the entire rifle generally while your at home in state is acceptable to house the upper until you return or lower when you're out of state?

I may be oversimplifying this. But the circumstances seem clear to me.
