I do my best brother. I don't have issues with anecdotal/subjective intel if kept in appropriate context. They are never taken as fact, nor counter proof of quality data, and "In God We Trust, everyone else must show data" is the mantra. Having said that, fact is, many breakthroughs and discoveries have been built on them - anecdotal/subjective discoveries and experiences - and plenty died in denial of them throughout history.

I found this appropriate because as I read it, I immediately thought of this thread.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
    C. S. Lewis

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do and that you see the irony and embrace it as such.

LOL, I read the first sentence as "Of all trannies..." I really need to spend less time on the interwebs. Any who, it's a classic quote and appropriate.

    Interesting findings:

Medical Marijuana Reduces Opioid Prescriptions, Another Study Finds

"In this study, we found that statewide medical cannabis legalization implemented in 1993 - 2014 in the US was associated with close to 30% reductions in Schedule III opioids received by Medicaid enrollees," the researchers, from the University of California San Diego and Weill Cornell Medical College, wrote in the journal Addiction.

Calculating the cost of opioid pain drugs that patients would have otherwise purchased, the study estimated that medical cannabis legalization in states that have so far adopted it saves the federal government $7.46 million in annual Medicaid spending. Add to that an additional $6.54 million in savings for states.

"[I]f all the states had legalized medical cannabis by 2014, Medicaid annual spending on opioid prescriptions would be reduced by 17.8 million dollars," the study projected.

While the research showed a clear reduction in prescriptions of Schedule III opioids, it did not find a correlation between allowance of medical marijuana and use of drugs classified under the more restrictive Schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act.

    CBD and Pancreatic Cancer

If that can be reproduced in humans, that's potentially ground breaking news:

"In the current study, Prof. Falasca and team worked with a mouse model of pancreatic cancer, which they treated with CBD alongside a typical chemotherapy drug, called "Gemcitabine."

The team found that, following this combination treatment, the rodents survived almost three times as long as mice from a control group, which had only been treated with Gemcitabine.

"This is a remarkable result," says Prof. Falasca, adding, "We found that mice with pancreatic cancer survived nearly three times longer if a constituent of medicinal cannabis was added to their chemotherapy treatment."

Note the date, 2014. Hence, the VA has been aware of this for some time. Meanwhile, veterans suffer due to failed, outdated, and demonstrably disproven, federal schedule that puts marijuana above cocaine:

Study reveals link between medical marijuana, opioid overdoses
JAMA Internal Medicine, online Aug. 25, 2014

States that allow medical marijuana tend to have lower rates of overdose from opioid painkillers.

That's the conclusion of researchers with VA and the University of Pennsylvania.

Their study tracked data from all 50 states, including the 13 that had passed medical marijuana laws by 2010. Today, 23 states in all, plus the District of Columbia, have such laws on the books.

Based on data from 1999 through 2010, the states with medical cannabis laws had about a 25 percent lower rate of deaths from opioid overdoses, on average, compared with states without the laws. The overdose rates tended to drop lower with each year following the enactment of the laws.

Lead author Dr. Marcus Bachhuber, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, told news@JAMA that the study was prompted by his discussions with many patients who had found marijuana effective for their chronic pain. He and his coauthors thought they might see a trend wherein patients were increasingly replacing or supplementing opioid drugs with marijuana, thereby lessening overall opioid use—and, in turn, overdose rates.

"Alternatively," he noted, "there is still debate about whether medical marijuana might lead patients to use other drugs, so opioid overdose might have increased. We thought there could be a change in either direction, and that's why we decided to study it."

Bachhuber, also with VA's Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion, said further study is needed to better understand how medical marijuana laws interact with policies aimed at cutting opioid overdose. (JAMA Internal Medicine, online Aug. 25, 2014)

    And so it begins....

"First marijuana-derived prescription drug will cost $32,500 a year'

Epidiolex, the first cannabis pharmaceutical to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, contains the active ingredient cannabidiol (CBD). It does not contain psychoactive molecule THC, which generates the high for which marijuana is best known.

In an earnings call Tuesday, GW Pharmaceuticals said about 1,200 people — primarily patients with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome who participated in the drug trials — currently are receiving Epidiolex.
