Yes. He actually said if he had to choose he'd pick a SCAR after not initially liking them.

I think they are fugly but I'd love to shoot/buy one.

    Really?

Nobody ever got shot climbing over the wall into East Berlin.

I thought the ar15 was an ugly beast once, but my mind changed after using them a ton.

The scar, I'm unsure on their asthetics (sp? ) but they seem like a decent rifle based on all of this.

Still would probably stick with the ar15 at this time.

Yeah. Not diggin it. Looks....I dunno...blocky I guess. That one looks better with the after market stock. I really don't like the stock....uh....stock lol.

It's just not sexy. A done up AR just looks awesome. A stock Vietnam AR I'm not hot on either mind you. I guess I like the flash of the newer components. I know, I know, I'm one of those guys

I'm just talking looks don't forget. I'd bring one to the battlefield and feel comfortable if I had to go.

That's one of the best looking SCAR's I have seen. How do you like that stock? Does it solve the problem of the OEM stock as to breaking at the hinge?

I'd like to point out this is not my SCAR 16 - I am simply aware of the image.

This is however the inspiration for how my SCAR 17 will be set up, so far as the stock. I have experience with the Ace SOCOM stock and it's good to go. I'll be using the longer version with Mesa Tactical's adapter plate. It's a non-folding aluminum plate as in the picture above.

First to Ron, thanks for the real world info posted here and at TOS. You help the whole community by sharing this. I have a Vegas trip planned early next year and can't wait to give you some of my money.

Summary from reading all the threads at TOS:

    AR platform
The DD ARs they are using will outlast the accuracy requirements most M4 members would require.(Basing accuracy on "community" knowledge of MF as Ron's requirements aren't MOA at 100m, therefore he has not provided such data). Evidence of DD, PSA, and now Colt lasting for high round counts. Bolts fail as expected but can last 30-40k rounds. Egging out of fire control group pins rare. Lowers probably good for way over 100,000 rounds (my speculation based on data presented). PSA premium bolts preforming with what I've read we should expect from a mil spec bolt.

    Optics
EoTech not as rugged. Acog and Aimpoints jsut keep running even when abused.

    AK
Very rugged, different failure modes than AR, but not indestructible. My personal impression is that a AR receiver can last as long, maybe longer than an AK. Ron has multiple pics of AK receiver failures, all at round counts that are very high.

    Pistols
Glocks run forever. Well over 100,000 rounds before seeing slide or frame cracking. Ron says they just run and run. Sigs run well to high round counts, with regular recoil spring replacement.

    SCAR
No bolt failures even at 100,000 rounds. Some springs and small parts replaced but he says it is the most reliable rifle.

Overall, modern weapons seem to be engineered to specs well beyond what we will need even if replacement was more difficult than present circumstances allow. That said, two is one, one is none is still good advice. Most of the info is regarding longevity. Reliability (failure to feed, extract, mag issues) is less quantified as their goal is just to get another gun in the customers hands to keep the fun rolling, not track this information statistically. But given the rounds they shoot per month, and the need to keep customers happy we can infer some degree of reliability info.

The raw posts are extremely valuable information. It's staggering to contemplate.
