Interesting reading. Thanks for posting. The FAL takes a little more effort to keep running than the average AK. Crap ammo combined with improperly adjusted gas system can induce a lot of stoppages. Bet most of those FALs don't have sand cuts, either.

Very interesting reading---you need to understand the FAL gas system for reliable operation---I've owned three standard factory FALs (not parts guns)---two Argies and one FN 50.00 (308 match)---all three ran 100% on any military 7.62x51 ammo I feed them (white box Winchester, Federal American Eagle, Remington UMC, Australian military, FN Portugal military, S&B FMJ, PMC FNJ, etc.)---never shot any 308 Winchester in these rifles---I leave that for my Browning BLR 308…
I think a lot of FAL "problems" are ammo related as some folks make no distinction between 7.62x51 and the higher pressure 308 Winchester round...
