The nick is parkerized so it is likely a small machining error from the factory. The rest is within the range of normal wear. None of that should affect the longevity or performance fo the part. I would just shoot it.

That actually makes a lot of sense Heavy Metal. I would think that damage from use would show rub marks on the parkerizing.

if it's that gash at 1:30 from the ejector, i don't see how the barrel extension comes anywhere close to that. the barrel extension lugs are outside of the solid circle, and any timing problem would be seen on the bolt lugs themselves, not on the inside edge of the circle. just MHO.

like heavy metal said, looks like just machining nick.

personally, it's something i wouldn't worry about, but just in case, i'd send that pic to LMT and ask them if it's cause for concern.

Has anyone ever had any experience with small dings or gouges on the face or lugs of a brand new bolt (especially one from LMT)?
    Blasphemy!

    Heavymetal,

I have to agree with you. It looks like crappy machining work to me. I would contact LMT and have them make it right.

Yeah the extractor channel on that bolt face looks rough as hell.I think I could have done a better job than that with a file.
Yeah I'd call LMT and foward a picture of that to them.

It's a machining nick. If it were a gouge, there would be displaced metal and it would mean you have a REALLY soft bolt.

both those bolts looked kinda rough to me - is it carbon residue or are they really that rough? just for reference, i snapped a pic of some random bolts i had (one is an LMT i think). the most worn one is a colt. none of them look that rough - their surfaces are relatively smooth.

I am thinking someone at the reseller switched bolt&carrier on his upper. I don't think it's a real LM&T item. Thats why I think he should send the whole upper with the bolt&carrier back to LM&T so they can pass judgment on what he has or does not have.
