The bolt in my new complete LMT riflethat I got from Grant at G&R has the same ab/mp markings too. The finish on the non contacting areas look rougher than the rest of the bolt but it functions fine.
This being my first AR rifle I was suprized at the over all finish of the bcg, it will snag and hold lint from a rag when its wiped down, but like I said the contacting surfaces are smooth anf it functions fine.

Ditto!! I'd ask LMT to cross-ship me a new bolt.

Update: I was given return info and told that no diagnosis would be given until it was personally inspected. I'll be sending it to LMT when I get back from my vacation. I have a feeling I won't get it back any time soon. *sigh* I'll update when there's more to tell.

I have back up rifles, but very few back up parts. My philosophy is that it's usually quicker and easier to replace groups, uppers, and/or rifles than individual springs, detents and such. Having said that, one or two spare bolts and/or bcg's are on my shopping list.

    FWIW...

    more FWIW...

new LMT on the bottom; Bushmaster on the top

Note that these are both semi-auto bolt carriers. They look like they are different lengths due to the camera angle.

Gas key staking: LMT lower left; Bushmaster upper right

Note that the Bushmaster is a few years old and is not a representation of today's BCGs from them.

I picked up another LMT BCG from Bravo Co. while I was ordering some mags.
Got it in saturday. The bolt is marked MP on one side and Z on the other. Its not machined or finished nearly as well as the BCG I got from G&R.
The bolt has a similar blemish and a few dings on the lugs. Also some sharp edges/bur on the lugs from machining.Made me almost break out the deburring tool.I would think shot peening would clean the edges better. All parked over,so apparently LMT has no problems with dinged up bolts.
The bolt carrier has heavy mill marks on the tail section...kinda cobby in my eye's as a mechanic's point of view.Almost looks like machine work Ive seen in late war WWII German weapons manufacturing.
Not a function issue as I can see it so I guess thats why they let them pass after test firing.
But there seems to be a quality difference in quality from different lot#.

Yep most definitely Gene or Ray will get changed out for you, and they will see a difference if it is a different bolt or carrier than the one that came with it.
