Need extended rail options for a 6920

    Hey Folks,

I've never felt compelled to modify my 6920's but after a carbine class this weekend I want to make a couple changes. What's stopping me is the FSB. I want to add an extended rail and I'd like keymod or similar (quad rails are NOT an option) and that's where the problem begins.

The only drop in piece I can find that comes close is this:

If I were to hack off the the front post, that would really open up the options - hmmm. Though I prefer to not permanently alter my Colt guns, I'd consider sacrificing one. Are there other products out there that I'm not aware of? Basically, I'm looking for the functionality of an LE6920 OEM2 without actually buying one.

I'm all ears for suggestions - thank you kindly!

Extended FSP rails are few and far between with most of those being Picatinny quad rails.

Troy also makes VTAC Delta that may serve your needs but it is not KeyMod or M-LOK.

Then don't. Remove the FSB, install a low profile GB and a KeyMod rail that mounts to the OEM barrel nut. Save the original stuff in case you want to go back.

Is that an easy swap? The reason I thought to cut down the FSB is from reading several negatives about switching gas blocks.

There's a thread on here somewhere of someone who cut out a part of a KMR to fit with the FSB. Id look at it as a possibility. He did it at home without machine tools.

Taking off the FSB is as simple as knocking out the 2 pins. A lot simpler than sawing and grinding it down. In your case
, where you might want to put it back, removing it is your only reasonable answer. If you cut yours down it isn't easy or cheap to install a new one. If you never want to reinstall it grind it down. I think it's crazy to do it considering a new low profile set screw gas block only cost thirty bucks. Are the screws as strong as two pins? Probably not but they are good enough. BCM does it.

I thought of this too but you mention you wanted a drip-in model.

Daniel Defense has the ris ii fsp $$. You would have to remove the standard barrel nut and use their proprietary barrel nut. But you wouldn't have to chop the fsb. Not a total drop-in solution. If you're looking to get out cheap then do like the other guy said. Remove the fsb, add lo-pro gas block, and a used Troy rail.

There are currently some good deals on these rails in the EE. I picked one up from BSully a while back. They are easy enough to install but you will want the proper tools to do it right, so unless you are will to make that investment have someone else do it for you.
