    Gun Oil Advice

I am new to shooting (semi auto handguns and semi auto rifles) and am looking for a dual purpose gun oil to replace my rem oil that is almost empty and I assume i can find something better.

After digging around and finding this article from Gun University on best gun oils I was thinking of going with Break Free CLP as it is multipurpose and seems pretty low cost.

But they also suggest just basic Mobil 1 synthetic. that seems cheap and easy plus i have that sitting in my garage from last oil change.

can i really just use this motor oil or should i go with CLP?

Fantastic choice, and may be less toxic than Mobile 1, as is required by Mil-Std 63460.

Before we all start arguing, any wet, slippery, non-polar stuff will work.

Is it that time of year again? I like G96 because it smells good. Fight me.

    We’re a few months early, I think.

Edit: ironically I think the stuff in my signature block smells terrible. Its one of the ones that starts with a R, but I genuinely don’t remember which.

*flashbacks of the lube wars intensified*

Exactly. There’s so many great lubes out there, pick one you like and run with it. I do prefer the non toxic stuff as breathing in atomized petroleum based products when running suppressed isn’t a great time.

No lube thread is complete without mention of Slip2000 EWL.

Besides working great on weapons, it's non toxic, so there's one less thing to worry about.

    Ballistol also non-toxic.

I use that, Clenzoil, and high-temp Lithium grease, depending on application / use.

I was going to comment on liking the smell but thought that would be awkward intro to discussion.....

I have tried a tiny demo bottle of slip 2000 I acquired along the way. seemed to do the job.

I am leaning CLP but will keep the mobil 1 as a back up option if in a pinch in the future. i know this is not rocket surgery as 1168 points out.

    thanks
