    Thanks. Wasn't banned but we moved across the country, started a new job, and didn't have internet at my house for about a month. Taking a break was actually really nice. Nice to be back but I have a lot going on now and don't spend as much time online.

    Sorry for the thread derail. The property taxes and gun laws suck but you'd be surprised at how many people just ignore them. Besides that, where we live, is amazing. Great friends, great family, we have a house on 6 acres with a creek running behind us and our own island in the backyard. My boys spend their days catching frogs, salamanders, crawfish and any other critter they can find in our creek. We have deer, raccoons and rabbits running through our yard. The schools are great and we live 1 1/2 miles outside of a town with 2 stoplights that time forgot. But, winter will suck.

    There is much truth to the gun statement. Generally much of the local LE guys are just as ticked off about everything as the rest of the citizenry. The purple tie state police are a different story though since many of them are transplants from the east side of the state.

    Is it legal to own an AR-15 in NY?

    It "depends". If you owned prior to the SAFE act you had to register it via some easily lost paper registration form with the state police. Post SAFE act you can so long as you were running one of those goofy ass shoulder/grip stocks. Now most dealers got out of the AR game entirely since its to big of a PITA. Oddly enough though there is nothing prohibiting the sale and purchase of lowers since they are not designated as firearms, but most don't bother to read into it that far. In the end all that really happened was/is mass noncompliance because people just stopped caring.
