I don't miss quad rails. For those that like them there are many choices.

Negative space rails are nice. People don't buy them because they suck if that's want the quad rail fans are thinking. Try it. You much actually like it.

Mission --> Gear Train. As a civilian I'm not going to be using Cool Guy gear on my rail so I'm comfortable with the KMR. I've read items can be ripped off of keymod without too much effort and that may be true. That's why I've mounted my WML to the 12:00 rail with a Gear Sector mount. Mounted to keymod is a short VFG, which if ripped off wouldn't make the rifle inoperable. The only other keymod mount is the QD sling attachment and that may get replaced with a Gear Sector offset that is mounted at 12:00. Losing the ability to sling the rifle would suck but wouldn't affect function, assuming I still have control of the gun.

That said, it depends on why you have the rail you are using and if you are comfortable with the odds when Murphy comes calling. For my needs, I'm comfortable with the KMR.

(tune Carpenters' "we've only jes' begun"......)
    It's 'Merica!
    Picatinny/Mlok/KMR/Slick.... because we can!
Its an AR thing - really:
Form follows function, and in no weapon platform more than the AR. I said it and will keep saying it till blue in the face. It's perfection.
Look at the staggering amount of options modifications add-ons, applications and "mission-specific' parts we have available - and who knows what else is coming.
Shoot it till the wheels come off, that will tell you if it works for you.
THAT is the beauty of it. There is no "Best", or "the Way", only what do you need it to do for you. What are your requirements.
If something is a solution waiting for a problem, the market will take care of it.
    Per Ardua ad Astra.
STS - gone but not forgotten.

Where do you read about properly designed, manufactured and installed keymod stuff being ripped off??? The only fault I can find with keymod is it is NOT idiot proof!!

Show me a keymod rail as durable as this ris-II and I'll kiss your ass. I own both 1913 and keymod rails. 1913 for serious guns, keymod for gamers/range toys.

Plenty of info out there if you know where to look. (HINT: P&S Group/Forum)

I was able to shoot my ELW 16" KMR-A yesterday to zero a 1-6, T1 and irons. Very happy with this rifle. Was getting sub two inch groups at 100 yards (5 shot groups) with XM193 and the 1-6. Still may order the Gear Sector QD mount but won't remove the BCM mount (2 is 1...) as I'm not worried about the additional.46 ounces of added weight.

I'd still use a quad rail in a few instances.

If I had an sbr that I wanted to use specifically as a SHTF gun or a fighting gun I'd put a quad rail on it. Probably a shorter DD quad rail but a short URX 3 or 3.1 would probably be my favorite. I have a seekins SAR 9 on a 10.5 pistol right now (not especially impressed) and its not terrible as far as weight goes. I also have an 18" ultramatch by rainier and I have a 13 KMR on that thing and it's still heavier than snot. That's one of the cases I would not want a quad rail, even if someone gave it to me.
Don't believe a word I say; I took a solid hit to the head and I'm a murse.

I got a Urx3 before key mod and such got big. It saves weight and has rails where I attach stuff. If I was buying g a new upper, I'd get a kmr upper for weight savings, but I don't plan on replacing my upper until the barrel is shot out, which won't be for a long time. Nothing wrong with quads, a lot of people just never use the middle section and go for lighter options because there is no drawback for us. I happen to think the urx looks great and when factoring in the integral sight, it was one of the lowest cost options as well.

so, so far what i have gotten from this is that quad rails are great for rough use and the rest are great for range, etc but if quad rails are great for SHTF purposes, shouldn't most of us train with what we would actually carry in a SHTF situation?

Some quads might be more durable on paper, but most people will never have an issue. I guarantee not everyone who runs a kmr treats them delicately. I'm sure there fine for "duty" use.

How does the dd key mod compare to their quad for durability?
