As Hillary would say, the science is settled?
Nobody ever got shot climbing over the wall into East Berlin.

Delivering the most precision possible, at the greatest distance possible, with the highest rate of fire possible.

Same here, you just need to know which lines to read between.

I think the issue is that a "di ar", everyone knows what that means, to differentiate it from a "piston" ar even though it technically has a piston.

What it is does not equal what it has, as people use the terms.

There are manually loading and self loading pistols and rifles.
The way they do it is different among them.
The AR is a gas operated self loading rifle; period.
We all know how it works and works very well I may add.
After reading all this I have to ask; why ?

Well, my wife got involved. She read three posts and decided piston. I've been calling it DI forever. The big question is, how will we raise the kids?

It has been interesting, I'm satisfied that academically I should think of the AR as a piston system, but at the end of the day, does it matter?

We all know the Stoner design works and works well. It has commonly been referred to as DI for as long as I've been reading on it. As long as we all know what we are talking about, as in when I refer to a DI weapon vs. a piston AR, the purist may snort in derision, but they know what I'm saying.

Let it go. It's like arguing whether Jesus went potty or not.

I've changed my mind....rather than DI or Piston, I'm calling it "Legacy system AR" and "Piston system AR".

No confusion. Nothing to argue over.

Well, if you drop the numbers for a Hakim into this model, you get some pretty reasonable results. (I used a Hakim as I don't have a P-T curve for 6.5 Swedish.) It behaves like a piston system.
