DoesThe idea that condensates introduced into the system adhering to the bolt tail, or inside the carrier causing possible issues isn't new. The issue seems to be possible resolutions, with possible means overall operation to this.
The question is, what are the possible solutions to the the issue? Part of what the market demands are span of function and operation. Most do not seem to have issues with a standard issue bolt or carrier. Even with the possibility that corrosion may occur under the deposits
For good or bad, the market does not seem to demand the higher price point in an improvement in that area with the higher degree of costs involved.
One of the things to know about this system, is that condensates do occur. In a phosphated system, this could be limiting due to the deposit rate and the stack of tolerances that has the ability to mechanically remove excess deposits from those area. Introducing a hard chrome lined bore can reduce the potential negatives. Introducing a properly applied hard chrome bolt tail can reduce potential negatives.
Sunnen already has the hones available to do so.
The problem continues as purchasers do not demand a better finish that resists carbon and other condensates with the higher price point of the proper hard chromed components. At least the TDP carrier is still chrome lined, when the market demands better, at least there is something known to step up to.

You are absolutely right there is no functional need for a coating like that on the bolt for an AR15 to run so most don't care to pay the extra cost. It may make a difference on a high round count session suppressed and unsuppressed for reliability. An AR15 takes a long time to clean compared to any other rifle I have used and I shoot quite often. So I can deffinately see the reason to make clean up easier. I'm not really into special coatings on the bolt but my go to bolts I put in all my rifles except my Knights rifles happen to have a Nickel type coating and it is easier to clean but that isn't why I have chosen them.
