    barrel cut/chrome lining question

If a chrome lined barrel is shortened, is the integrity of the chrome lining affected at the muzzle? Will it chip or peel in use from the cut end?

Was wondering, if one wished the shorter length of a 14.5 without requiring specialized longer muzzle device to make length, a 16" could be cut to the length that would make 16" with common devices, or a specific one you wanted to use.

Concerning the 2nd part, Palmetto State sells 14.7" barrels with pinned A2 flash hinders.

Can the integrity of the chrome be compromised, sure it can. Are there ways to reduce the chance of it happening, yes there is. It's not hard to do, the machinist just needs to be familiar with it.

Because this procedure tends to happen with some frequency.

If done right chrome lining won't chip or peel. The person cutting it can damage it, but if done right, with correct tools, use won't affect it. The chrome forms a metallic bond to the barrel during the plating process.

For 2, yes, take into account threads. If you have the parts, measure bare barrel, install device and remeasure. Subtract 16.1" from this length. Thats how much you can remove from current barrel and perm device.

Barrels are measured by dropping a rod into barrel with closed bolt, empty chamber. Mark at furthest point on muzzle device, remove rod and measure to mark.
