New member, new Stag Arms 9mm

High...just joined and thought it was a good idea since I recently bought a new Stag Arms 9L in 9mm topped with a Burris XTS-135 red dot sight. Oh man, I'm just ecstatic at having a left handed automatic! This is my first AR type firearm.

I am/was surprised at how nice a rifle this is. The quality is excellent.

I just love to tinker with my guns. This may be one of the reasons I'm a real 1911 fan, the infinite options and parts available.

I'm looking forward to modding the Stag a bit. Why? Just because I can...It's part of the fun, no? I'm not using it for home defense or anything serious. It's just going to be a fun plinker.

I have a JP trigger kit coming from Brownells. This looks like a really sweet pile of bits and pieces at a decent price., all trigger parts including the hammer. I also have a Maglula loader coming because Oh my god! You can't load one of those 32 round mags by hand and still have a thumb left. Wow, if any magazine ever needed a loader, it's this one.

I'm thinking about a new buffer. It has been recommended to me to change to an 8.5 oz 9mm-Q buffer with a Wolff XP spring from "Heavy Buffers". As I'm really new to AR's I'm pretty overwhelmed as to the myriad of choices available. Any others I should consider?

Anything else that might be a nice addition or modification?...within reason, although I've never needed a much of a reason before.

best advice from experience. relax on the mods, save you money for ammo. learn your gun before you go changing something you don't know needs changed yet.

put a sling on it and go shoot it.

save you money and buy ammo.

Understand but this is part of my MO. I just love to tinker with my guns. Don't get me wrong. I shoot the crap out of what ever current project I'm on. I have enough 9mm to piss off most any liberal.

Is an 8.5 OZ buffer more or less correct for a 9mm?

Stag Arms did a quality job putting this together. It works and eats whatever I feed it. From what I'm told, you can reduce the recoil a bit more by using a heavier buffer.

Just something I'd be interested in trying.

Welcome aboard. What buffer do you have in it now?

Just something to think about. the buffer you chose could work fine but a heavier buffer will affect more than the felt recoil.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. The cost of this particular buffer and spring is $75.00 so it's not a fortune but it's not free. If you drop it in and reduces felt recoil but at the expense of reliability, well, that's a problem.

well it seems like you already new the answer.

every gun runs a little different. if you want to try it...there's nothin to it but to do it.
