Get the one with the thinnest crosshair for target shooting.
Me and my idiot friends go to the range in during snow and rain, but not necessarily dusk or dawn. The thinnest crosshairs goes to accupower @.125 moa. The illumination can be turned off, so it's an option that i dont mind having.

Can anyone explain what First Focal Plane means and is it worth the extra $500 average?

If you really want a 50mm objective, Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP. Couple hundred more.

But IMO 50mm objective for 100-200 yard shooting is ridiculous and unnecessary a 32-40 would be better suited.

If I was on a tight budget and I plan on most 100y shooting sometimes 300y. Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP would be my choice.

yes, and to 1000. usually 100 for my OCW tests, then 200 to 300 to confirm my load. then out to 1000. I haven't gone past that, too far to drive to throw .223 out past 1000

I was shopping more for reticle than objective size.

    What makes the duplex useless?

it's not totally useless but if you zero at 100, it's nice to have hash marks so you know which hash mark puts you at 300 yards for example rather then just holding over 8 inches or whatever your drop is. that's why First focal Plane comes into play and us superior then SFP

The Leopold option you listed has no on the fly turrets.

The duplex will only be useful if you only ever shoot at one distance.

With some milling and FFP you can do holdovers if you don't have the turret options.

The beast is intended for 1500m... 5x25 56 objective, using to for 1000y is unnecessary. 4-16/18 44 will have enough internal adjustment on most models.

He is only going to be shooting 100y-200y possibly 300y.
