Sheared gas key bolts - Anybody run into this before?

A member of another forum that I belong to had this little incident shooting a suppressed 300BO, 16" barrel. Factory ammo only, some sub sonic, some super.

Quality parts only for this guy, I am waiting to hear round count on that BCG and brand.

Anybody seen this type of failure before? Cause?

I have seen that before when the carrier impacts the back of the lower receiver. the ones I have seen have been from the receiver extension being bored to deep, and the carrier impacts before the buffer can do it's job.

I'm no expert, but here's my two cents. The staking on the bolt does not scream "quality" parts to me. One bolt breaking I could see, two bolts is suspicious.

Those are cheap quality fasteners. I have seen it and usually it's from the screws being overtorqued.

What is the torque spec on them?

    50 to 58 in-lbs.

The front screw does look to be a torsional failure.

What do you see wrong with the way they are staked? Please explain why the way they are staked caused the cap screws to shear?

Those aren't staked properly and would come loose easy. But, that isn't the issue here.

I'm betting on they're grade 5 screws that were over torqued.
