Federal T223E in 11" SBR for duty

So my department issues and requires us to use Federal T223E defensive ammo. It is a 55gr .223 cal round loaded with Sierra bullets.
Oddly enough, the only exception to this is that we have a crate of leftover Federal XM193 5.56 that we are allowed to use as well.
I'm in the process of converting my 16" duty rifle to 11". It's a Colt 6940, so the barrel is being cut, a replacement barrel is not an option. Therefore, the gas port size is a major focus for me as my concern right now is reliability with ammo, specifically the lower pressured .223.
What should I keep in mind with these two ammunition choices and my gas port size?
I will also have the ability to use a suppressor, but as it will be in my bag and not on the rifle all the time, reliability without it mounted is very important.

Why the Frankengun when you could just get one of these? http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...n&key=LE6943CK

Out of stock, I don't have $900 to burn, I like my locking/folding front sight.
There's nothing frankengun about what I have, only the barrel is being chopped.

Chopped, threaded, crowned and the port drilled. I know it's not rocket science but it is still four things that could go wrong. Your 6940 also has a $900 upper on it. If you could make the logistics work selling yours and buying the 6943 would be a no brainer to me.

If you have an outfit such as ADCO cut your barrel, they will know what size of gas port you need.

I would just get the barrel chopped first, and then open up the port as needed. You can just ream it one step larger until you get reliable lock-back with light ammo like PMC and no suppressor attached. That is the worst-case, and will guarantee function with hotter ammo and/or a can attached. Running a little over-gassed with a suppressor won't be a reliability issue if it's gassed lightly but reliably for PMC or other commercial .223.

A .076 port should allow a wide range of ammo to work.

I should just start sending you messages whenever I have questions. You are always here to help. I really do appreciate that.
I will be right in the area of ADCO on Wednesday and I'm hoping to drop it off then. I'll discuss .076 with them, thanks for the help!

Make sure that you specifically address the issues of the proprietary barrel nut/wrench and the tools to disassemble the FSB.

In my emails to them they seemed to understand it's differences. Hopefully the FSB doesn't even need to be disassembled.
