    Another Retro Build Started

After much deliberation and procrastinating, I have finally decided to get started on a Model 604 build. I will have a Colt 604 upper coming next week and I have several surplus M16 parts on their way and should be here Friday or next Monday. I need to get a Nodak Spud XM lower ordered and source out a barrel. For now, things are off to a good start.

So I probably shouldn't tell you that I just sold my complete 604 build yesterday?

Hopefully, they will enjoy it. I had an opportunity to buy a complete 604 build, but I really like to build my own. The reward is much greater. Also, I can build it to my satisfaction.

If you need a source for an A1 grip, I can recommend Sherluk. Just yesterday I received one from them that looked pristine. I prefer the A1 grip and three-prong flash hider, so I ordered the grip and old-style barrel wrench that has slots for installing/removing three-prong flash hiders. I was pleasantly surprised by the grip because my other A1 grips were a little worn when I got them, and I know Sherluk's reputation has a few spots on it.

Thanks. I already have everything covered. The upper is done and test fired. It even has an original transitional BCG in it. I am waiting on a partial-fence lower from Nodak Spud. I have a bunch of original Colt parts waiting to go on it. I have a nice condition D stock and a slightly mottled A1 grip going on it too. I slapped the upper on my XM16E1 lower to test fire it.

This is what the finished product will look like (built 604 upper and XM16E1 lower).

Well guys, here is the finished product. I ended up using the Colt M16 internals (hammer, trigger, disconnect, springs, pins, detents, etc.). I did modify the fire control parts to keep it compliant. The lower was a blem. Harlan said it had some slight spots in the anodizing. I could not find them. I still had to do my magic on the lower to match the upper. It blended pretty well. The 604 upper has its original finish.

It even has a correct transitional bolt carrier.
